Perhaps they could turn it into a "Noises Off" type of thing and include some of the backstage incidents described above.

Question: is it stunt casting if you cast a lead role with an acclaimed actor no longer at their best?
It sounds like Dunaway wasn't right for this role but she would have got audiences in.

But they will have to pick their 'one woman' very carefully, and if it does end up here, it's going to come with the press attention of 'the play that Dunaway was fired from'. I also want to say that I'm very pleased to see the show management actually responding to what sounds like very poor behaviour from Dunaway. However, I do think they probably should have acted earlier (probably in rehearsals, from the behaviour alleged to have taken place there), and note that they only had until July 14th to go, meaning they had done most of the run. I'm guessing it was the behaviour on July 10th that finally pushed the management past what could be tolerated?
