I think Moonstruck would make a marvellous musical. Perhaps using themes from La Boheme as the movie does to form the basis of the score.
On screen I think Billy Elliot the Musical needs to become a movie. Wonderful as the original movie is, the show is superior and packs a huge emotional punch. There is no need for remakes of Oliver! or West Side Story. I would much prefer to see a better South Pacific being made. Mack and Mabel may work better on screen if it had a really sharp screenplay that didn't follow the book too slavishly. It could be in lavish early Hollywood style and if it had two charismatic leads and did justice to the score it could be ravishing - one for Baz Luhrmann maybe?

Where will it all end, a new film adaptation of the forthcoming Groundhog Day musical?
On seeing Sideshow what stuck home was how it was such a good topic for a stage show/musical. I very much doubt the sisters could have ever been so real on screen. Now it could have been better handled but the point remains. Some subjects are more suited to stage and some to film. Otherwise why not just ask Stephen Sondheim to adapt Avatar?

Apparently there's going to be a live action version of The Little Mermaid to follow the new Beauty and the Beast that's coming next year, and Lin-Manuel Miranda is working on the music with Alan Menken!
