While I can understand why they did the opening scene, it being the only part of the piece that is really extractable, I must say that it is my least favourite part of the piece. It was slightly shortened for the RVP compared to in context, but only by a few lines in a couple of places. I was pleased to see George Haynes in the scene, as when I saw him on for Simon I didn't arrive until near the end of Act 1, thanks to the trains being completely screwed up, so didn't see most of his version of the 6 year old Simon.

Looks like the tour of this has been rescheduled. The dates at The Lowry, where the tour was due to begin this summer, have moved to 29 March - 3 April 2021.

It’s on Royal Variety now and what the holy hell is going on. It’s the least funny thing I’ve ever seen. Likewise. Was looking forward to seeing this on tour, but thought the performance wa a absolutely dire. Won’t be going now. The Play That Goes Wrong on Royal Variety was absolutely sidesplitting. All the Play family build throughout - in degrees of things going wrong. Play that goes wrong consequently has multiple comic scenes to choose from which stand alone. This one has a story that builds even more and the story is stronger and only comes together at the end. Playing he first few minutes was bound to look odd - but what else could they do - as the middle would be more unintelligible and the end would give the story away?

I haven't seen the show so I wouldn't be able to tell you. The Play That Goes Wrong clip made me want to go and see the show (and I did!) My desire to see Groan Ups is no more after the Royal Variety this year. Maybe just me.
