In spite of her rubbish online attitude, the role of Celie would certainly be in safe hands with Cynthia. I would’ve thought she was a shoe-in if it’s what she wants, and I’d be more than happy with that.

Oh no I agree she could handle the role and she'd be good, but I just think she has a crappy attitude and has kinda forgotten where she has come from in her career.

Just please don't push the Wicked movie back again for this.

I'll be curious to see who they get to direct as Spielberg is only producing, I would like see Ava DuVernay direct, she directed Selma and A Wrinkle in Time.

Hoping this is all true! My all-time favourite book and film; I think about it still today!
The music from the show is beautiful and to have Oprah + Spielberg on board it could be something massive. It wouldn't surprise me if Cynthia gets Celie, she is a powerhouse and favoured by Oprah, and is currently getting bigger and bigger in Hollywood.

I would’ve thought she was a shoe-in if it’s what she wants, and I’d be more than happy with that. She has, however, been absolutely vehement that she will never play Celie again, so she would need to do a complete turnaround for it to happen! Though if anyone could persuade her to do it then it would certainly be Oprah...

Of course Cynthia will do the film!! And a half a million dollar paycheck! Her agent would push her to do it and as she already had started a film career she would be mad not to.

But she'll desperately want that Oscar to go with her Breakfast TV appearance Emmy.

She will definately do it if offered. She is now a "upcoming name" in movie world after her last two films when her acting skill was praised.

The issue for her is, if she does become a huge Hollywood name, scheduling will be the issue. They need to book her before it's too late.

I actually think the issue for her will be that 'The Color Purple' becomes all she's known for and everything else will sort of fizzle out. If she got the Oscar (not unreasonable, Jennifer Hudson did) her EGOT would be all for the same role, which is a shame as most of the other winners have demonstrated a range of sorts. But on the plus side, perhaps if she does win, she could guest star in the third 'Sex and the City' film should it ever get made.

Yes it could actually have a negative impact and be all she is known for and capable of doing. All those awards for the same thing isn't the same prestige as winning for different roles. Plus, just because her performance on stage was great, it doesn't mean she can pull it off on film. Acting and singing on film has different requirements and if she just recreates her stage performance she may not get the acclaim she expects

Well to be honest, she's a great singer, that's for sure. She's not the best actress by a mile, and I think it's a shame if it is her because it could go to someone who can have this be their breakout role and slay!

Sitting at the bus stop yesterday morning. In 5 minutes 6 buses passed me with her picture on the side and a 5 star review in last night ES for Widows which mentions how good she is. So her name is being bounded about a lot more than just in the MT world.
