Fantastically funny
Piquant
Saucy
Wonderfully acted
And full of sharp dialogue
There is quite a lot of explicit sexual language
And the atmosphere was ruined a bit By the awful audience
Sitting like bloody idiot Lemons Too frigid to react to the play
But a piece by a black female British writer Starring three wonderful black female actors
Was really great to see at this venue
I loved it

Hampstead is generally a much older, middle class audience isn't it? Doesn't surprise me massively this wasn't their cup of tea from what I've seen about it

Good to read so positive a review (especially as I only booked yesterday, based on early reports); also to hear that you wholeheartedly enjoyed something, @parsley.

I loathe the late starts (7.45 pm) for evening perfs at Hampstead Downstairs, but at 1 hour 35 with no interval and with tickets as affordable there as they are, I'm happy to chance it. Plus I've seen some really impressive work there in recent years.

Well this was great in every respect: writing, performances, set, direction - and audience response, and reminded me why I so enjoy seeing new writing in a supportive venue. The 3 young actresses were so full of verve and vigour that it was a joy to watch. The play itself was a bit episodic and the writer threw in two quite serious issues at a late stage without adequate time to address either, so I think that was a mistake, but if you want to see something enlivening which just pulses with energy and enthusiasm, this is it.

Plus, now that the press are officially invited to Downstairs productions and PN has for this one has come round, lots of 4-star reviews. (Check Hampstead's site for examples if interested.)

Saw this tonight. Loved it and a bargain for a tenner (under 30s ticket). Incredible debut from the playwright. Odd venue for it, would have though the Soho or somewhere with a bit more edge might have been a more obvious choice but was nearly sold out so nothing to worry about.
