Where's Paul Nicholls gone then? Won the Ryanair Chase and the RSA, 2nd in the Champion Chase and 5th in the Gold Cup, should be back on the stage now Cheltenham has finished. |

Putting out publicity material and posters featuring a person that is never going to appear really is bad form and infentionally misleading!
Adam Lilley sounds like he is doing a very good job in his place, by all accounts.

The Wycombe Swan website for this was clear that Paul Nicholls wouldn't be appearing although Kenright hasn't got his scissors and glue out to stick a new head on the poster. wycombeswan.co.uk/online/tickets-rain-man-wycombe-2019But the next stop on the tour (Glasgow) still mentions Paul Nicholls. He has had some well documented problems over the years. |

I do think this is very shady practice on the part of the producers. The tour has been going on since the start of the year and Paul Nicholls hasn't (as far as I'm aware) appeared in a single venue - yet his image is still being used to advertise the production.
When I saw it in Bath in January, Paul Nicholls' photo and name were outside the theatre, Mathew Horne was listed in the programme, and yet the role was played by neither of those actors.
I'd seen the play in the West End with Josh Hartnett and Adam Godley (which was very bad indeed) but in 2019, as well as still being a shockingly bad piece of theatre, the portrayal of autism left me feeling particularly uncomfortable.

I don't know why it was chosen to depict autism so physically with a limp, erratic twitches (normally more symptomatic of MS or CP) and other erroneous movement (I assume they did it because 'the movie did it'). It felt like a very rudimentary representation with very little assimilation to the plight of autistic traits. |

The play has moved to Newcastle this week and, you'll be shocked to hear (!) that we have just been emailed by the theatre saying that they've just been informed by the Producers that Paul will not be performing and they hope he gets well soon etc.
This is after months of huge ads with him on around our transport system.
I'm certainly not blaming the theatre. It just really bad form by the Producers to intentionally deceive the ticket buyers this way.

Maybe he is intending to come back but his doctors keep delaying it? I agree they should stop promoting it with his presence whilst it remains uncertain though. |

I watched this last night and loved it.
I've not seen the film (I know) and knew nothing about it, just booking to see Paul Nicholls. Obviously he was not there, see previous posts, but it did not matter!
The 'understudy', Adam Lilley was outstanding. I don't have much personal experience of autism so cannot comment how realistic a portrayal it is in that way, but as a piece of acting it was pretty astonishing.
Chris Fountain was also fantastic. Such a great performance and from the rest of the supporting cast. A performance of humour, love, every kind of emotion. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
