I never liked seeing RSC stuff at the Barbican. Totally different vibe.

Trying to remember last RSC show i saw there. Think it was 2001 Comedy of Errors with David Tennant!!! Went a lot in the late 80s and 90s when i lived in London.

Saw it tonight -- totally excruciating. A couple down the row from my guest and me left during the entirely mirthless first act and who could blame them? Several of the supporting cast quite spectacularly bad but one will refrain from naming names in this instance except to say that one also wonders how many playgoers bothered to stay for the post-performance talk. My guest and I hotfooted it away the second we could.

sorry to see RSC so unpopular these days.
i agree its a pale reflection of the dynamic force it once was.
i hope 2019 sees them restore some force and leadership.

Saw it this afternoon. 4 stars from me. Lovely clear production, picked up every story and subplot without a synopsis reference at all. Fun and bright. Nice casting (can see why 4 blokes were chasing Ms Page). Dealt with the show stop well, too. Centre lift broke. Falstaff improvised brilliantly, the iron came in, and when it went out he jumped on the trap to prove strength after which Host crossed herself. Thank god your funny bone works. After the half empty comments above, I was beginning to think i had dreamt lmao in Stratford! |

I also thought this was brilliant and actually feel quite sorry for those who couldn't find anything to enjoy in it. From the front row it was obvious how much fun the cast was having- contrast this to the comments made about the Macbeth cast still playing in the same space. Plenty of heart too. I thought the updating was clever and well thought through and the costumes were a highlight, some of the most imaginative I've seen. Loved the set too. Great to see Rebecca Lacey, been a fan of hers since May to December (one for older TV viewers). And got propositioned by David Troughton, what's not to love! |
