Is anyone that pays to go to a musical about Tom Jones really looking for 'dramatic meat'?

If that's how they think of him, yes.

Fantastic show with a phenomenally talented cast. Reviews unfortunately unfair as most assume it's a jukebox musical, which this is not. The songs people are "wanting to hear" simply cannot be included during the show as they were written and performed much later in Tom's career. The show follows his early life and his early musical influences and it seems that most reviewers have not researched the basis of the show enough and want something that simply cannot be given (you cannot add things to a musical based on truth (and a script that has been approved by Tom Jone's management) to include things that did not occur purely for dramatic meat.
The performers are flawless with the lead showcasing a superb voice and perfect Tom Jones' dance moves! The band are equally as talented and Linda is portrayed beautifully.
A review, in my opinion, should be based on what the show is, not what the reviewer thinks the show should be: it is not sold as a dramatic piece of theatre and there is no point complaining about lack of certain songs if they were not written and performed at the time. Surely to include these would give a false impression of a true welsh star's life? I think the true reviews and opinions can be seen by the sell-out Cardiff audiences, their tweets and Facebook feedback and the smiles from the audience as they leave the theatre.
A simply fantastic feel good show!

Did not like this at all. Although the cast are clearly talented, its a very confused piece. For the most part its more of a slow burning play than a musical and the finale is when it really takes off. Its too little too late and isn't enough to save it in my mind.

The funny thing i usually enjoy his music. Just felt this was a show that didn't know what it wanted to be. With work it could probably be a decent show.
