In fairness to the the Playhouse, and not wanting to go too far off-thread, the restaurant was 'outsourced' a couple of years ago and now operates under a concession arrangement. Of course that doesn't excuse poor service, or bad treatment of either dogs or humans, but the Playhouse cannot be held directly responsible.
Disagree. It's the Playhouse's premises, and the restaurant/cafe/bar is advertised on the front page of their website and is part of the overall visitor experience. They may have outsourced the management of the facility, but there's nothing on their website to suggest it's managed independently. It's sold under the Nottingham Playhouse brand, so therefore a bad experience in there reflects on the theatre as a whole.

I didn't think much of the Playhouse staff when I went btw. They have a thing where they endorse your parking ticket to get a discount, so after the play I waited at the box office (can't say queued, as it was just a free for all melee) for the chap to say 'not here, you need the ice cream stall' and turn away to serve someone else. I went off to the ice cream stall, which was abandoned and shut. I went back to the box office and waited again, told the chap the ice cream stall was shut and asked what I should do, and he just sighed loudly, came out from behind the desk and said 'follow me' and walked me back to the ice cream stall where he signed and tutted until the staff member came back. She then took my parking ticket and stamped it without talking to me or looking away from her colleague who she was chatting away to. I wasn't impressed.

That’s ridiculous. No reason why the box office chap couldn’t have a stamp too!

We know from Baz that Alex Kingston will play in An Enemy of the People.

I’ve been trying think what the “killer” musical was. My first thought was actually SWEENEY TODD, but ASSASSINS makes more sense. I hope so - it is a stunning piece!

The hints on the website suggest maybe Sondheim's Assassins too. Interesting. Marianne Elliot has been quoted as saying she wanted to do Assassins next.... edit: Correcting myself here:
Sondheim was asked which of his musicals he'd like Elliott to direct next, and after jokingly responding, "every single one of them," he said that he and John Weidman, the librettist of Assassins, had been in talks to try to get Elliott to direct that next. However, he assured that there are "no promises here, it's just a desire." |
