Rarely a play manages to encompass a century so perfectly.
The juxtaposition of location and individual could not have better captured the tumultuous changes that occurred in the 20th century.
We may associate Ayckbourn with the farcical social intricacies of the middle classes but this play is so much more. (Spoiler alert, Norman Conquest all dayer at Chichester booked)
Only criticism would be maybe the 60's deserved more than a pantomine but Benny Hill did endure to the 70's!
The ending had me transfixed, a circle of such breadth beautifully realised.
Alan has already confirmed next year's premiere is complete, consider my ticket to Scarborough booked.

I'd be interested in seeing this if I could combine it with at least one other play (think there's an older Ayckbourn running in rep with this), but the logistics of a trip to Scarborough (or York, as it's doable from there, too) at this notice are challenging. Would love to know if this will tour idc.

Thank you - hadn't seen that info but will check again. Hope there is a south-eastern stop on the tour.

Straight after Scarborough, there's an in-the-round tour of both plays to the New Vic, Newcastle-under-Lyme (two miles from Stoke-on-Trent railway station) 10-28 Oct and of the new play only to The Old Laundry, Bowness-on-Windermere 8 - 11 Nov.
