Baz reported on Twitter that Anthony Hopkins is set to star in a Richard Eyre-directed BBC TV adaptation of King Lear with a cast that is also slated to feature Emma Thompson, Emily Watson, Jim Carter, Jim Broadbent and others… Sounds exciting, and it's reported that it's the first of a series of these types of projects. I'm a King Lear nut, so I'm always delighted to welcome a new production. I wonder what slant they will take on this version. It's a relevant topic at the moment given the Royal Family's recent comments regarding the taking over of the throne, and also with regard to recent Brexit drama… It'll be interesting to see will all of this impact Eyre's interpretation. He, of course, famously directed the stark 1998 NT production of Lear with Ian Holm which was subsequently filmed.
