We went on a Saturday night fairly late on in the run to the Donmar Private Lives, and it was nowhere nearly full, plenty of availability. The Donmar used to be the place to be and was always hard to get tickets, but not lately. Although Macbeth is certainly an exception because of its star casting. Interesting. I went midweek late in the run and it was full with people standing too. But in general you are right, the days of Grandage and Mendes are long gone never to return (unless they get Robert Icke to be AD).

Threads merged. Thank you for finding the original thread, showgirl. I knew I'd read reviews somewhere, but assumed, when I couldn't find a thread, that they were posted with 'general' reviews.

I saw this last night and it is pleasant enough. Witty, performed well, not earth shattering. Nearly booked a £25 mid Stalls ticket through Rush, but held out until later in the day and got a row D Stalls ticket discounted to £15, which was perfect.
Before the show I had a short chat with the elderly couple sat next to me, the man mentioning that he'd seen the Mousetrap in the Ambassadors (prior to its move next door). They seemed to be enjoying the show, but did not return after the interval. The second half had a lot of noise from just outside the entrance, including medical equipment being used, and an usher positioned to stop anyone using the exit, so I rather fear it involved the people I was sat with. No more detailed review comments, not least because this rather took my mind off the show, but I very much hope that everyone is recovered.

I saw this tonight and enjoyed it. Particularly because I got an 85 pound stalls seat for 35 pounds through TodayTix (booked a week or more in advance since I'm not terribly spontaneous). Yes, the cast is geriatric, but frankly so's the play*. And the two stars had more sparkle and life than the younger actors. And they had the snappy pace necessary for a farce (something 'Noises Off' with Felicity Kendall didn't have). The first act is startingly short (45 minutes), then after the interval there's a short act, a brief black-out, then the final act. * {Spoiler - click to view} The scene of domestic violence shocked the audience, even as part of a farce. The verbal sparring/abuse, however, was taken in an almost panto-like spirit by the audience rather than being taken at face value, which I thought was good.

I imagine Coward's estate to be like Captain Tom's family I don't think Coward's estate are particularly problematic are they ? Not like Samuel Beckett's estate for example.
