I've been wondering why I haven't seen this before; I certainly want to catch it this time but the dates/locations combos aren't helping: Eastbourne/Greenwich/Guildford are nearest for me of those remaining, but clash with existing bookings. Further opinions eagerly awaited - I might have to ditch something else if this is really good.

Went to see this yesterday at Greenwich and really enjoyed it - i didn't know what to expect as a friend booked it for me (quite rare!) and went in 'cold' but I was really impressed by the writing, plot and acting. I know there's not much more of the tour left but for what it's worth, I found it a very worthwhile evening.

I'd really been looking forward to this, given the good reviews, so was shocked by how melodramatic, stagey & lacking in credibility it was. I nearly bailed at the interval but it was almost compelling in its awfulness.

Oh dear - went with high hopes from some of the reviews I had read, thought slightly wary to due Showgirls comments. Not a good afternoon and what a waste of Paul McGann.
It reminded me of a very poor production of one of the more creaky JP Priestly plays. We did hang on for the second half but only with the help of the very good ice cream on sale. I thought the cast looked rather resigned when they came on to take the polite applause, not the smiling faces you get with a success. I suppose it's a job and pays the rent.
Still, I like the Yvonne Arnold and have seen a couple of enjoyable plays recently (Nell Gwynn and Fracked). You win some, you lose some......

Sorry you didn't enjoy it either, Jelly Bean, but evidently I'm not the only dissenter. I'm still wondering how on earth this nonsense ever saw the theatrical light of day, let alone how this revival garnered such good reviews, but that will remain a mystery. Someone here did make the valid point that local reviewers tend to be more generous (perhaps with an eye on advertising revenue for their papers/magazines), but that doesn't explain the national press comments. This was apparently Moira Buffini's first play and had it been the first of hers I'd seen, I'd have made a mental note to avoid her work in future.
Still, as you say, the Yvonne Arnaud is a pleasant venue; it was nice to see it so full on Thursday and the rest of the audience at that matinee did genuinely seem to like it - hmm!
