One of the songs was Where Or When, which is usually by Ketty Lester but this was a different arrangement. I don't know how helpful that is...
I really enjoyed the play anyway. It was a bit obtuse but the performances were great and I was fully engaged for the duration. Sometimes that's all you can really ask of a show.

Saw this yesterday. To be honest, I expected something really bad but I have to admit I quite liked it (however, the gentleman seated next to me admitted he was tempted to leave at the interval but he eventually decided to stay). Loved Aisling Loftus' character. Not too convinced by Julian Ovenden though, I agree he's miscast.
PS Oh, and I finally saw the red-haired usher (or perhaps this should go into the "Famous people..." thread).

So if i take myself some nice squashed sandwiches to put me in a good mood ;O) I recommend beetroot and silver skin onions. Three of us went to the matinee Saturday, 2/3 wanted to leave at the interval but didn't. 1/3 thought it was OK. Curate's egg sums it up, despite the stellar acting. But, as I've commented elsewhere, too much sitting at Japanese tables almost on the floor, affecting sight lines, and a part where 3 couples hold separate conversations simultaneously necessitating the missing of 2 of them.

You are far fancier sandwiches than I do!
My enthusiasm for this is pretty low.

Oh dear. I totally forgot I had booked this (and Ink!) until I got an email from the Almeida yesterday.

Maybe it was going in with expectations suitably lowered, but I quite enjoyed this. I'm not sure I got entirely what it was trying to achieve - beyond the obvious - or that it succeeded, but it didn't bore me.

Well will never know now if i'd have survived the gore scene since I went, struggled through to interval and then feeling terribly ill thought staying would be plain stupid so left, I did do several stop and pause on the way back to the station but since I hadn't exactly enjoyed it seemed more sensible to get home to bed, whether I would have liked it better if I hadn't felt so awful and therefore trapped who knows. I've read a spoiler somewhere on this thread about what happens in the second half but can't say it shed much light, I think I probably missed every metaphor or whatever that was going on and was pretty lost.

Thanks Lynette, feeling better today, I get this inner ear infection which effects my balance and thus makes me feel like i've just come off some terrible spinning tea cups ride, felt ok in the day so went and then got worse (I think knowing there is no easy exit without inconveniencing people makes me bit stressed and therefore worse) plus the potential gore didn't help. Am hoping it's not like last summer where I had a bad run and a lot of theatre close together which was a bit fraught.
Frankly I think my body needs to get a grip and accept i like sitting in the dark, packed in with people, watching other people who may or may not bleed all over the stage.

Poor Peggs! Any chance of convincing your body that they're not actually bleeding - they're just spilling a red syrup on the stage? Because I swear you can smell the sugar in it from the front row, which tends to shatter the illusion for me.

Ridiculously it's not always the red stuff that is the problem but the build up or when without always a good reason I decide something bloody might be about to happen, brief mention of a paper cut in the River got me all hot and bothered, whilst Coriolanus at the Donmar was actually okay. But funnily enough you might be right that if I could smell the sugar I might be okay as it would snap me back into reality.

It probably depends on the brand/formula they use for each production - apparently there's lots of varieties. I've certainly been close to the stage and realised the sweet/toffee-ish smell is from the fake blood. You know the toffee you get on toffee apples? Like that stuff.

Oh that's a quandary, I have a sweet tooth and my immediate response was mmmmm and then I thought vampires.
