I don't want to be a massive Scrooge at Christmas, but shouldn't you start the debate with your reasons (I presume) for? I mean otherwise I could just raid IMDb and list every film followed by 'The Musical?  ' With a subject of 'why/why not'. I think there is a thread for suggesting films to be made into musicals. |

Because its a satire and satire goes well in theater. Talks about real world issues. I also believe it talks about consumerism and current state of media.

Because The Truman Show was an original idea and story created for a film and there's no reason that writers of musical theatre shouldn't be imaginative and intelligent enough to create their own original ideas and stories that will be far more effective than stories we've heard/seen numerous times before.

But its Broadway it has to be for the mass market. Three big box office successes of the last 18 months on Broadway: Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, The Great Comet. None of which were made with the mass market in mind. |

I find these type of click bait threads with obscure titles very misleading and frustrating. Surely this could've been discussed elsewhere, I'd much rather be part of a discussion board that is full of threads about actual shows, and not hypothetical ones that aren't even in development.

Part of the joy of the film was watching the stage-managed action from overheard. It would be hard to convey in a theatre the size of the "film set" world he inhabits, and the families at home watching it. The film is perfect enough.

I also sort of thought this would make a good piece of theatre, but that's probably because of Groundhog Day this year and through listening to Tim Minchin's explanation of it in interviews being an absurd/existential piece like Rosencrantz and Guilderstern Are Dead or Waiting For Godot, focusing on a character trapped in a world on a stage that they can't escape from. Having seen Groundhog Day and thinking it is the best piece of musical theatre I've seen for a while, I'm in no rush to see the same treatment be applied to the Truman Show. But still, never say never :-)
