Wanted to draw attention to this as an adopted Hull resident. Announced as part of the first 3 months of Hull's year as capital of culture 2017. www.hulltruck.co.uk/whats-on/drama-comedy/the-hypocrite/#show-detailsBeing produced by the RSC and Hull Truck Theatre The Hypocrite is a riotous comedy from award-winning playwright Richard Bean, whose hit One Man, Two Guvnors was a runaway West End and Broadway sensation, inspired by the infamous moment in Hull’s history which started the English Civil War.

Has anyone seen this yet? As good as The Nap?

Has anyone seen this yet? As good as The Nap? Seems to have had positive reviews. I did fancy this, but a lot of the tickets at the RSC gone.

The reviews made me want to see it, too, but even the Stratford location is not that easy. Maybe further locations/a tour will be announced?

Theatre Royal Haymarket?
With a ticket cost more expensive than flying to Hull to see it.

Saw this tonight. Very funny, absolutely manic at times with a small amount of audience involvement if you're sitting in the front row. Mark Addy excellent in the leading role and also Laura Ellsworth as Connie, who also acts as a narrator at the beginning and end. A few topical mentions in the script and also references Shakespeare, probably done as produced in conjunction with the RSC.

Sorry people of Hull, you deserve better. A rehash of some of the One Man Two Govners' jokes and stage business and a pretty unappealing plot. The main character played v well - he also deserves better - is an unpleasant man who betrays both sides in th Civil War and is vile to everyone. The last ten minutes are just weak farce and yes of course there is a bed. Don't waste your time.

Saw play just over a week ago on strength of One Man Two Guvnors. Not as funny as the predecessor but I still enjoyed it. I could see it getting a transfer. Laura Ellsworth and Sarah Middleton were particularly good in their respective roles and are two names to watch for the future.

I liked this. It made me chuckle a lot....very silly at times....Mark Addy has great timing. Enjoyed Quentin too....Good singing, liked the storyline and thought it easily as funny as One Man Two Guvnors! Also quite political here and there...votes for women (and commoners!), enclosure, class difference all touched upon...plus some nice Shakespeare references along the way. If you like funny silly then this one is for you!

Great fun. The shoehorning in of constant Hull in-jokes doesn't really play in Warwickshire! Never seen audience participation get so... intimate.

Enjoyed this. With some minor tweaking it would do well elsewhere I think - need to lose the esoteric Hull jokes which were a bit like seeing a panto with local references shoehorned in - I lived there for three years so did laugh at "Lady Anlaby has a road named after her in West Hull" etc but I was the only one I think!
Agree with Lynette the ending was a bit Benny Hill.
