I'm torn - I could count the number of Richard Bean plays I've enjoyed on the fingers of one... well, finger, so I figured I could safely miss this one, but the synopsis actually sounds interesting and like it might be a topic that successfully avoids the pitfalls that have ruined previous Bean plays for me...

Yeah, with Baemax on this - I'm not a big Bean fan and I also feel it's not quite in the spirit of the downstairs space to have someone who is getting commissioned all over the place anyway. I did however go for £5 preview tix for R&D and know absolutely nothing about the playwright Simon Vinnicombe, so will be surprised (I hope.) However - the Bean play will probably be great and I'll be jealous I didn't book.... |

I suppose if it *is* great, it'll do a Hello/Goodbye and move Upstairs? And we could book it then if it still sounds not-awful?

Look at it from another angle. This was possibly rejected by the NT. We can but hope.

I'm not that keen on RB's work - have found it mixed - but I see most things at Hampstead Downstairs and thought both the new productions worth a punt. Annoyed to be unable to get a £5 preview on the date I wanted (to go with a matinee in the main house) as the date list kept saying "Limited Availability" yet when I tried to book, I got a "Sold Out" message. So I've gone for a matinee on a later date instead, which is safer in a way, as a good late start (3.15 pm) allowing time for a film first, and I don't have to hang around for a 7.45 pm start if whatever I see at a matinee turns out to be short.
Gosh, wouldn't playwrights feel slighted if they knew the criteria on which we based our our bookings! Though I am sure many people go purely for the writer and/or the work.

When you return a ticket for a sold out performance of an unallocated seating show for resale, the theatre says they will put it on sale, the website continues to say it's sold out up to the performance date, but when you ask at the box office they tell you they were unable to sell your ticket, it would be easy to be quite cynical about what happened to the ticket

I quite enjoyed this. Seemed quite advanced for a 'new' experimental work and I think it could potentially have a future with a bit more tightening up
