I made a comment on another thread that imo the London Palladium is the greatest theatre in the world. So I though I throw it out there?
So my top 5 are;
London Palladium
Radio City (New York)
Hollywood Pantanges (Los Angeles)
Palace Theatre (New York)
Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

I was hugely unimpressed by The Palladium when I went for The King and I. Why is it your #1?
TRDL is beautiful post-refurb unless you have a visual impairment in which case the marble floors and stairs all merge into one big tripping hazard. Pretty though, so that’s all that matters.

Does the Royal Albert Hall count or the Royal Opera House because those are impressive.

London Palladium greatest theatre because of famous people who have played there over the years, also the size of the Palladium, but it also is manages to be quite intimate. Aesthetically it is alright but the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane would win on that one.

The Palladium is in need of a major restoration / upgrade.
Wyndhams is my favourite playhouse and the Prince Edward my best musical theatre. Others on my list would feature the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and the Leeds Playhouse (post refurb). I am really struggling to get the fifth for the list - so many vying for the position.
Douglas Gaiety has a stunning auditorium, but is dire backstage.
Seen some terrific stuff at Southwark Playhouse - despite the theatre.
The National Theatre maybe.
Nottingham Playhouse - excellent building, questionable productions / attitude to audience
Tyne Theatre & Opera House for the history
and many more

Nice as the Palladium is there’s far, far too many seats that end up having restricted views. Shouldn’t be a thing in a very expensive 21st century theatre, let alone one that endlessly promotes itself as the best in the world.

I can't speak for many theatres around the world but my selection would be
Theatre Royal Drury Lane - absolutely stunning after the refurbishment
London Palladium - for its history and who has performed there.
The London Coliseum - for its size
The kirov and Bolshoi - don't know what they ate like now but in the 80s when I went to them they were stunning.

Theatre Royal Drury Lane and Prince Edward Theatre would be my choices. Prince Edward was the first theatre I visited in London, and I was so impressed! Love the decor and the red and gold theme.
The Royal Drury Lane is absolutely stunning and my most visited theatre in London (so far). Every time I went there, I felt that just visiting the theatre was worth at least £10 of the ticket price! It is just a monument on its own
The Palladium, in my opinion, needs a refresh, same goes to the Lyceum Theatre (was there back in 2023, I know that work is being done/was recentlly being done)

Theatre Royal Drury Lane will always be at no.1 for me. The rest is a juggle.
I don't really like many Broadway venues because of how much they pack people in like sardines. So many of them wouldn't even make the top 10.
