Surprised Fiddler is not in there for Best Revival as I preferred it over Kiss Me, Kate.

Some big omissions in the play nominations and vdisappointed by the off WE noms, a lot of great shows missing. And really surprised to see Brace Brace on the list, thought it was pretty weak and didn't get great critic reviews.

So disappointed.. can’t believe Lithgow is not included and in loads of mixed categories again musicals prevail over straight plays which always makes me twitch a bit. Why a ‘WE show’ always has to be light entertainment? Maybe it’s just the wrong word or something is wrong with me.. Or maybe it’s s default thinking being from Russia where historically straight plays has had a lot more value and followers than musicals (which are considered a younger theatre sister here).

Who decides the nominations? I know we can vote for the winners...

Tom Holland’s almost certainly going to win best actor in a play simply because his fans will flood the voting

Sorry, but no nomination for John Lithgow? Get outta here! Agree. I also realised reading the list that Sarah Snook was eligible! Just shows what nonsense the awards are.

Who decides the nominations? I know we can vote for the winners... In November you could nominate your own the same way on their webpage, I guess nomination comes from the same fandoms as winners so.. it’s quite clear. Doesn’t make it less irritating though.

Oh absolutely. I wonder if there is a perfect award system out there, because this ain’t it, the Oliviers ain’t it (and I’ve launched into a Kelis song in my head)…

Who decides the nominations? People who don't see many plays judging by these nominations.

The nominations this year are a joyful grab bag of a mess.
Weirdly it looks less like the fandoms, and more like the Marketing Depts/PR Depts for shows have been working overtime in the voting stakes.
Bring on the Oliviers, which are always dodgy too (biggest names only please for nominations; only award shows that make money/have a future life in the WE or B'way; money money money money...), but equally brilliant at highlighting how nonsensical all they all are.

Saddest snub for me is no 'Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder' in the new musical category. Hope they get some awards love elsewhere.

It’s always going to be this way. I think these awards are fun, but they don’t reflect anything other than popularity. And I know a lot of people have to admit that, but that’s the truth. Having said that, I think a fair few of the nominations, especially in the musical categories, are as expected and deserved. Thrilled to see Georgina Castle and Tom Xander nominated. I’ve seen Mean Girls a handful of times now and whilst i admit it might not be the best show in the world, I think they both give incredibly classy performances. Likewise Melanie Le Barrie in Hadestown. True true class act. No doubt most awards will go to the crews that have been involve with Six however. So expect WAISS to take their fair share…

I mean all awards are a nonsense in one way or another.
I don't think their decreasing relevance (in this country at least) is a bad thing.
In fact the NYC utter obsession with the Tonys baffles me. Who cares! The way they go on about people winning before shows even open is mental.
