Apparently this bilingual production has a mixture of spoken original text, scenes using BSL only in a modern translation and some scenes which are a mixture, with the whole using captioning.
I look forward to hearing from BSL users how they find this and how well it works for them.

Observations on performance
It is a straight gimmick free performance costumed in line with period of action
Captions are large, easily seen from all parts following original text Screens are larger than usual ones with very cleartext. They are hung at middle gallery level with two at each side and one at centre. In addition they are displayed on back of stage on a large circular screen, the background changing colour according to where scene is set
Even during spoken scenes many of the actors are signing as well so for BSL users there would seem to be times when it would not be necessary to look at screens.
The music was performed by brass and drums. Some old brass instruments I had never seen before produced some wonderfully strident sounds. I had the privilege of a conch player standing next to me in the middle gallery.
At the performance last night fireworks were set off ten mins before end, apparently by Algerian football supporters on the bridges. As security did not know what was happening in these tense times, the performance was stopped and there was a lock in. The audience were escorted to the large space under the theatre while the situation was assessed . Despite newspaper reports there was no chaos! The audience then left about 25 mins later.
