I thought this was a really lovely piece of musical theatre and a privilege to see Jenna Russell in such an intimate role.
Although the pacing and length of the piece could be smoothed over, it is a refreshingly gentle piece of storytelling.
Charlotte Kennedy is captivating as both Pamela and Natasha, growing into her roles the more we see of her.
Flowers for Mrs Harris may not deliver the showstopping, knockout blows we have become accustomed to with modern musical theatre but it sure does pack an emotional punch as you will Ada on throughout.
Four stars.

Caught the matinee of this yesterday.
As enjoyable as it was and I thought it had a lot of heart, I wasn't blown away.
I went into this a little blind. I never saw the Chichester production. When it was screened during COVID, I downloaded it but my laptop died. I have not seen the recent film or know any of the music.
I thought this was a show of two halves. For me, Act 2 was much better and stronger in every way- the acting, the costumes, the lighting.
Nothing wrong with the singing but I found the songs generally unforgettable.
Twice I thought, 'oh, this is like in the show'. I found the Act 1 finale to be a bit like Putting It Together from Sunday in the Park with George, both lyrically and in its pace.
And at the end with all the flowers, it was like Calendar Girls.
Although I can't speak a word of French, I understood what was going on.
But ultimately, I left asking questions.
I found the set a little cramped and wondered what the show would look on a bigger stage with a little more money thrown at it.
As good as Jenna Russell was (and this is no disrespect to her) I wondered what this would have been like with another actress of a similar age in the role.
Every actor on stage- except Jenna Russell double up on roles- personally I would have had a problem if there were a different set of actors for Act 2.
Am I pleased I went? Most definitely.
Would I go again? Probably not.
It was good to meet fiyero

I will see this, but it cannot be anything other than a poor cousin to the Chichester production.
The casting for that was superb on every front (Jo Riding, Clare Machin, Laura PP, Louis Maskell, Gary Wilmot) and led by the utterly marvellous Clare Burt.
The final moment of 'flowers' in Chichester was done in such a moving way that I'm sad to hear it's turned into a bit more like Calendar Girls now

This show seems to really be sailing under the radar - I barely even noticed that press night had happened. I really expected this to be a huge hit considering the team behind it and Jenna being attached. Is it selling well?

I saw the matinee today. This show got me - I cried my eyes out in the first and second act! I had to tell myself to calm down. I absolutely adored it. Jenna Russell was perfection as were the whole cast.
The show lacks that west end polish and I didn’t love the Dior dresses as much as I did when seeing the show in Sheffield but gosh I adored the story - it’s such a journey of loss, hope, purpose, dreams and the narrative to never give up.
I JUST wish that this musical had two knock out stand out songs that were earworms or songs that could be sang at concerts for years to come - even Sondheim gave us that. The score is beautifully discordant! It’s stunning but sadly not too commercial.
Four stars from me too! I’d happily see it again and recommend you all see it too! Take tissues.

In a previous post I made reference to Magic Radio channel- Magic at the Musicals and the interview with Mandy Pantinkin.
However before this, they were speaking with Jenna Russell, about Flowers for Mrs. Harris, her favoutite musical theatre songs, songs from shows that she's been in (Overture for Merrily we Roll Along, The Revolutionary Costume For Today from Grey Gardens), songs that she could listen to forever, etc.
They did play the finale from Flowers for Mrs. Harris.

Caught this over the weekend, not my usual cup of tea at all but I really enjoyed it. There's something wonderfully charming about it and Jenna Russell is equal parts heartbreaking and joyous. The music did absolutely nothing for me (about 5 minutes in I thought I was going to hate the whole thing), but as a show I had a lovely time.

Was anybody else expecting a bit more of a buzz around this? Seems to have really sat in the background. But then the Riverside Studios feels like an odd choice and a bit off of the grid.

Saw it last night.
Jenna Russell is wonderful, and so are the rest of the cast; the show is still lovely (I saw it in Sheffield) - but there's a level of magic in this show that Bronagh Lagan, this production's director, does not find. It's not bad, it's worth seeing, it's still a very moving piece, and it's a terrific role for Jenna Russell and she never puts a foot wrong, but there's something missing from this production - though maybe you wouldn't notice it if you hadn't seen Daniel Evans's staging.

I saw this at the matinee today and with the exception of Jenna Russell I found everything about it ( except the Red Dior gown) pretty enervating. The first act in particular took forever to get going and though the second act was much better, the whole enterprise lacked "ooomph" The set was dreary and generic and the score was underwhelming - no part of it stood out. I love the source material, I loved the Angela Lansbury TV film of 25 years ago or so and I loved the lesley Manville film from last year - but this was just a dreary show.

I loved this in Chichester (with the luminous Clare Burt and a truly star studded supporting cast) and apart from Jenna Russell, a lot of the magic of this show has sadly vanished for me in this production.
As others have said, I feel like the director never fully found the heart of the show, and as such the whole thing never really found its feet.
Jenna Russell is really great in this, but I found myself comparing her (and in turn everyone else) to their predecessors. Russell amicably steps into Ada's shoes and really carries this, but for me the rest of the supporting cast largely didnt. Truly awful French accents from most (esp Andre and particularly Pamela, who seemed to just speak French words with an American accent, it was very bizarre.)
I don't know if the show needs a truly special cast for it to really fly in the way it did in Chichester, but I definitely thought the material lacked something here that I didn't think before.
3 stars for me.
