So what would that be? 5 or 6 weeks? I’d have thought Broadway producers going to the trouble of bringing a show over would be looking for a much longer run than that.

Fiddler on the Roof will end next Saturday a day short of two months since the first preview. Maybe a similar length run could work for Shucked at Regent's Park initially, with an eye to transferring it into the West End after that?

Yeah, at first glance it seemed an odd choice for a new Broadway show, but on second thoughts it probably is pretty sensible to test the waters with a smaller scale (maybe?) production in the park, then hope it does well enough for a transfer. Especially following the lukewarm reaction to stuff like A Strange Loop and Slave Play.

Will sit lovely in an outside space, in a ‘Once on This Island’ kind of way.

Well yes, apart from the regents park production of Once On This Island was appalling 😂

I'm guessing Drew McOnie wanted something more than one musical for his debut season which is fair enough.

What a great idea to have Shucked in the Open Air, this musical lends itself to that, a brilliant way of getting exposure to a musical, than going straight indoor the West End and die a death - If it does well it could go indoors in the winter.
A similar musical that I have said on here should be done by the OAT and that is ‘Bright Star’ that has a superb score and book and would work well in the park.
This could be a marketing master stroke (I hope so).

I remember years ago they did Crazy For You (Clare Foster) and that transferred directly to the Novello.
Appreciate that’s an old school musical but a similar trajectory.
I think this is pretty smart. Strange Loop should never have been at the Barbican imo - smaller space would have worked better.

Yes, I think this'll be great in the open air and great in the space. I was petrified of it just going to somewhere massive and utterly dying the death, as a few shows seem to be doing this year.
Strange Loop got a fair reception, but it was just a complete disaster of marketing that no one cared to see it to know how it was. Not even a marketing shot to the foot, it was more comparable to shooting yourself in the face.

They can use the set they had for “Legally Blonde” which if I remember correctly, looked like a corn field.

Would be surprised if a transfer to the West End wasn't planned for after Regent's Park.

I think this is pretty smart. Strange Loop should never have been at the Barbican imo - smaller space would have worked better. That Olivier Award winning production did transfer to the Novello Theatre and died a death, nothing wrong with that production, just the show itself and that audience have moved on from that type of musical, for the same reason that the recent Chichester production didn’t do well in the West End despite a sublime cast. Conversely Jesus Christ Superstar did excellently and toured all over the US and UK and must made a mint for the Open Air, that production could easily play the West End again and sell well. i just hope the audience will have their picnic baskets ready and endorse a new musical in the OAT.

I’ve been looking forward to seeing this, couldn’t squeeze it in when we were in New York but the fact that it’s at the open air theatre disappoints me a bit as I’ve not really enjoyed the last couple of shows I’ve seen there. I was hoping for a straight Broadway transfer and I’m wondering if we’ll get that.

I saw this on Broadway a couple of years ago on a horribly rainy afternoon - I arrived at the theatre almost soaked through, but as soon as it started it just lifted me right up. It's absolutely bonkers but a lot of fun.
