I saw this in Richmond on Saturday. The two leads are very good. It's a short 1 hour 50 minute play (with interval), which I suspect doesn't need the interview.
The lot is about the relationship two philosophy academics working at an unnamed UK university, with a timeline moving backwards and forwards that has to be pieced together. There are lots of social media references which make the timeline rather suspect, unless you believe this is set in a world where Covid didn't happen.
The biggest failing I found (as an academic myself) is this is set in a UK institution (and there are UK references), but the university operates like a US institution, with lecturers being described as "faculty" and individuals able to make arbitrary and immediate appointment decisions without following any processes. There is huge oversight now - and there was huge oversight ten years ago. I know plays don't have to be realistic and you can get away with this in plays set in 1970s and 1980s universities, but it just came across as a huge error in fact checking for me.
There are some interesting ideas here on gender roles and it was an enjoyable enough afternoon, but things just never quite hit the mark for me.
