I've just finished reading the book, really enjoyed it, but wow it was intense. Really intrigued to see how this transfers to the stage.

Just announced - a further 5 weeks (from 4th July) have been added, at the Savoy Theatre. On sale now!
New updated promo artwork launched too, with a nice big photo of James Norton, so they’re clearly cashing in on the success of Happy Valley here.

Understandable due to popularity - but unusual production for the Savoy usually known for "lighter" shows.Can't think of the last time there was a straight play there.Perhaps Penelope Keith's Blithe Spirit in 2004? Sunshine Boys in 2012 I believe! |

Congrats to the production - but, it won't be performing while we are in the UK! We are there after it closes at the Pinter and leave before it opens at Savoy. Sigh.

Any news on what's going into the Pinter?
Seem to remember an article a few years back on how costly it is to move theatres especially for such a short run (although both ATG).
Recall it was about when It's Only a Play moved on Broadway to make way for The Audience.q

Recall it was about when It's Only a Play moved on Broadway to make way for The Audience.q I would guess that because ALL is doing a week in Richmond that it was possible to transfer the show to the Savoy without too much financial overlay. |

Picturing us, starving, thirsty, needing to wee, while gore plays out for almost 4 hours before us. Then dashing to catch the train. Ah theatre! (and damn my FOMO.) |

Are there one or two intervals for this? I believe it was only one interval when it was in New York. Plus, londontheatre says "Run time. 3h 40m (incl. 1 interval)", so if we trust them, that's your answer. I'm hoping for two, though. |

Are there one or two intervals for this? In the Dutch version there was only one interval - and the running time was about 4hrs10minutes (though it didn't feel that long). I can't believe that it's solely the difference in language which means that it was longer - so they've either edited quite a hefty chunk out of it - or the 3hrs40 is a VERY vague approximation. |

Seeing this tonight, I'm sitting 3rd row in the stalls so quite close. Let's hope I don't cry lol
I'm actually not too worried about the run time so hopefully my legs should be okay.

I’m currently 2/3 of the way through the book. I’m hesitant to say I’m ‘enjoying’ it due to how heavy it is, but it’s absolutely fantastic and I’m really looking forward to this now. I’m seeing it in May then right near the end of the first run in June. Starting to wish I’d booked an earlier date!
Can’t begin to imagine how they’re going to stage this, though, so am really looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks. Enjoy!!

I’m still trying to process my thoughts but it was absolutely incredible. The acting is 10/10 - James is going to be praised by the critics when the reviews come in.
It’s as graphic as I was expecting it to be, at times I couldn’t really look because of how real some scenes look (at least that’s how it looked in the 3rd row); a lot of blood scenes and a fair bit of nudity from James and Luke.
I’ve never read the book so I wasn’t familiar with the storyline and yes it’s as depressing like you all said lol, you could just feel the audience feel sad. It was interesting seeing the audience in their onstage seats and literally seeing their reactions whilst watching the play. In terms of the onstage seating - yes it’s a bench but it is padded with cushions so shouldn’t be too uncomfortable, and the lighting on the stage is also on the three rows so you will be seen throughout the entire play.
Weirdly, most of the 2nd row was empty despite this being very sold out so I luckily had no one in front of me.

Forgot to say, they give you stickers to put on the back of your phone to stop you from taking photos (just like Cabaret), probably because the actors are already on stage before the play starts.
Also, it ended at 10:45pm (and it started 5mins late so it is indeed 3 hours and 40 minutes).
