OMG OH YESSS!!! Ben Daniels is back in the core West End!! I believe the last time he performed in a London commercial theatre was like the late 1990s? The rest of his London theatre career was rotating to the subsidised ones - Donmar and National.
It’s just so lovely to hear. Plus he’s reunited with his best friend Sophie and director Dominic Cooke!

Pricy tickets...I hope they will have offers... Way too pricey! I'm willing to pay £25 for this, but not for those vertiginous balcony seats. So I'm playing chicken with this production. I'll give it a slot in my calendar, and if, come the day, I'm not getting a LOT better for my £25, I'll take an offer on TodayTix to see something else. If I miss it, I'll live with my memories of Helen McCrory as the scariest EVER Medea and my memories of seeing this exact same cast do "Haunted Child" together at the Royal Court.  |

I am also not willing to spend £25 which is generally my budget, for such a far away seat. I see that Marvellous is not included in the Rush on Today Tix, so wondering if this new theatre will not do them at all, or if they will eventually introduce their own offers like the NT and others do |

Looks good but the (starting) prices are too high for me. I wonder if the current production Marvellous was sold at these prices originally because now they're much lower. I'll wait for a cheap ticket or not see it (I have seen 3 productions of this play - I even liked the Almeida one that no-one else here liked). It's doing a really long run given the play, hard to imagine there won't be offers.

One of my very first theatre experiences in London was seeing Fiona Shaw in this and apart from Yerma I don't think I have ever been so devastated by a play since.
Those prices though...yikes!

Anyone had problems buying tickets from soho place..at check out i just get an error message. ive emailed, sent messgages via social media and phoned... have not had a reply from anyone!

It's a very fine translation/adaptation of the text and I think both Zoe Caldwell and Judith Anderson won a Tony for it, 35 years apart. Jason is not much of a role, but I'm very excited to see who they'll cast as the Nurse

Well this was the second night in a row that I attended a first preview and had an amazing evening (with seeing Standing at the Sky’s Edge the night before). I was sure Jodie Comer had the Olivier award in the bag but I’m not so sure after seeing Sophie Okonedo in this - she was captivating and pretty terrifying and could be a serious contender. Excellent performances all round including Ben Daniels playing multiple roles expertly. I thought the 2 child actors also did an excellent job too in what are pretty harrowing parts. Very simple but effective staging. {Spoiler - click to view}
I'm wishing I'd bought shares in whatever company is currently supplying the rain effects to everyone at the moment! It seems like every other play I see at the moment has rain in it! They’re offering £20 day seats in person at the box office for previews from 11am each day (not sure if they’ll be doing them after opening night too). I was first in the queue (arriving at 9:45) and got decent seats in the front row of the first balcony. There was about 10 people in the queue when the box office opened. |

Olivier awards cut off is late Feb isn’t it? Opening night for this is on the 17th. Cut off for Oliviers last year was 22nd. |

Cut off for Oliviers last year was 22nd. I’ve checked for this year’s qualifications and it says for shows that opened between 21 February 2022 to 14 February 2023. I’m not sure if @sohoplace already applied for its SOLT membership, or is it automatic that all venues within the West End district are automatically members? (Although a popular theatre venue within London, Bridge Theatre has yet to have a SOLT membership status as far as I’ve read) officiallondontheatre.com/olivier-awards/choosing-the-winners/I hope this gets an NT Live treatment so it could get a longer life beyond April. I’m looking forward to listen to Ben Daniels’ interview for Graham Norton on Virgin Radio later this morning. He’s publicity-averse and I don’t know if he has a publicist or something (though he got the well-deserved Olivier nom last year), so this appearance is gonna be a delight. |

@sohoplace already applied for its SOLT membership, Marvellous and As You Like It are both eligible for this year's awards so I assume the venue applied for SOLT membership already |

Also I've noticed that ticket prices seem to be higher for certain sides of the stage––anyone know why this might be? As the theatre's in the round, I expected that it wouldn't matter which side I booked for

I don't think there's a bad seat in Stalls generally speaking. Of course depending on the production, some props could obstruct the view at times in certain seats. If that's the case there should be a warning in the ticket I sat in row B for As You Like It and the view was great.
I will be seating in row F for Medea and will report back.

As the theatre's in the round, I expected that it wouldn't matter which side I booked for This was well played to all 4 sides so I don't think there's really a bad view anywhere. There is 1 set piece on the stage which consists of a wall which is a few feet tall. This is in the corner of the stage which is nearest where seats A1 and A40 are (for anyone that saw As You Like It its the same place where the piano was). I am not sure if this would block any of the action, but you might want to look at sitting the opposite side. I was sat int he first balcony and the view from there was perfect. Also a couple of points that might be worth considering if looking to sit in the stalls: {Spoiler - click to view}
3 of the cast spend the majority of the show sat in regular seats amongst the audience, where they will have spotlights on them and stand and interact with the cast on stage. I personally was glad I wasn't sat next to them because they were projecting loudly and those sat around them were also in the spotlight. The seats that these 3 cast members sat in during the first performance were in the areas around: B5, A18 and E31. Also there is a rain effect for the last 10 minutes or so - it was quite heavy and I don't think those in the front row of the stalls got wet but I am not 100% certain. Oh and there were no programmes at the first performance. If anyone goes sometime soon and can report back if they have any in I would appreciate it, as I'd like to pick one up |
