I like La Cage, but I've seen three different productions since 2000. I'm not ready for another.

Legally Blonde was a horrid production. Fortunately the material was so strong that it still worked.

Legally Blonde wasn't that bad. My friends and I all enjoyed it.

The Menier's La Cage started brilliantly with Douglas Hodge and Philip Quast. It got considerably cheapened by the time John Barrowman and Graham Norton appeared (and subsequently Norton even admitted he should never have done it and he was awful)

The whole piece is a bit TOO "Broadway" for me. |

Casting is absolutely key.
I saw the last major revival when Roger Allam and Philip Quast were Albin and Georges.
You need performers of that stature, experience and talent.
The later tour with John Partridge as Albin didn't work because he didn't have the right combination of skills.
It is not enough to sing the notes and say the words.

Part of the joy of La Cage is that it is such an old-fashioned, well made musical. The only thing innovative about it was that the main characters were gay. I really hope they don't do anything to mordernise or make it more relevant. It could be gorgeous if they put the St. Tropez promenade in a crescent behind the stage and let the club open out like a dolls house.

Not familiar with this so don't know how suited it is for Regents Park. Aslo not familiar with the TV show but could a Drag Race Queen be cast? Would not be surprised if they do so and that would attract a younger aucience.

There are very few UK Drag Race queens who are old enough for the part and those who are don't really fit.
Of all the DR queens, I would love to see Ginger Minj as Zsa-Zsa/Albin. Great voice. Can handle the acting side of things.

That would be a no for me also. Saw one of his cabaret shows years ago at the Menier and it was dreadful.
Finally enough there was a FB post recently asking what musical you would like to see revived and I said La Cage.
