They don't have to film it by July 9th. They can bring the originals back if they really want to film it. from Lin's twitter: He's leaving July 9th too- so I took to mean it will be filmed before then- but I could be wrong.

It sounds like it will be. Getting Groff back to film his bits shouldn't be too difficult though, and as you say, it could almost be filmed separately.

How technical was he being when he said "original," though? Like are they bringing back Betsy Struxness, and is Emmy Raver-Lampman taking leave from Spongebob to do this?

Just scored a ticket for the sit-down Chicago production..after waiting 3 hours in an online queue..it was stressful, and everything that shouldn't have happened happened. What a horrible site that ticketmaster is. Row E orchestra.

Well, this answers my question!
I'm also sure that ticket vending sites across the US will be crashing the moment their sales go live. It happened with Mormon as well.

It's unclear to me if the current booking is completely sold out or if they've only released a certain number of tickets within this period that are completely sold out. During my last Chicago visit in 2009 they did the same with Mormon when they released a number of reserved seats just a few days before the show. Though Mormon was big back then and hyped, it wasn't as obscene as this.

I seem to remember the first scenario was the case with Mormon in Chicago. But not so with the first national tour of Mormon in Denver, San Francisco, and LA. Once they were gone, they were gone.

Recent Chicago Trib article says they don't normally release the entire inventory but it's undisclosed how much of it they did or didn't.
UPDATE: It's not as horrible as it looks anymore. Tickets are still available, at least in December when I was looking. We got two extra premium seats for me and my friend (3rd row orchestra), 3 seats for another group (mid-orchestra), and one seat all at separate performances (semi-obstructed mid-orchestra).

Been listening to the cast recording at work today, gosh 'Helpless' is just glorious!! That whole sequence of "Right Hand Man" - "Helpless" - "Satisfied" - "Wait for It" is incredible. I remember thinking on my first listen, "No way this can get bet--Wow, it just got even better."

If I were ranking all the Hamilton tracks in order of preference, I'd have The Story Of Tonight (Reprise) in last place because, well, something has to go last, and it's just in an unfortunate place, preventing me getting from Satisfied to Wait For It without even stopping to breathe.
I suspect this makes it quite an important track, not just conveying story, but also adding an extra dimension of having to wait for something before Wait For It happens. ^_^

I actually think what is notable about Hamilton is not that teens love it. It's that people of all ages, races, genders, sexualities and backgrounds love it. Teens are always the most passionate about the things they love, but I've been more taken aback at going to see it in New York and seeing overly enthusiastic elderly white people immersing themselves in hip-hop and R&B music performed by people of colour. Hamilton is not for any one demographic. This is a show that has as many musical theatre references as it does hip-hop references. The white people in their 60s in the audience may not recognise the 'Ten Crack Commandments' spoof but they'll know the Pirates of Penzance reference and vice versa.
It's great that it's getting younger people interested in history but when its presented in such a fun and endearing format as this, I'm not particularly surprised. I'm more surprised about people that have claimed to 'hate rap' or 'hate musicals' becoming just as obsessed as these teenagers (whilst perhaps not being quite so open about it). After all, it's not teens that are paying over $1000 to see it.

^ well said, snutte. BTW I know the 10 Crack Commandments and other Notorious BIG references throrought the show but what's the Pirates of Penzance reference? Quite shocking given I'm on a theatre board, but I'm not too familiar with Gilbert & Sullivan's work.

And a reference to R&H, specifically South Pacific:
"I'm with you but the situation is fraught, you've got to be carefully taught" from My Shot.

GOD
Running on Broadway
A 2 year minimum contract in Chicago
And a US tour
All prior to the WE opening
This show is gonna lose its shine well before coming to London
By super saturating the market with itself
I assure you
It's gonna be a different story entirely in London

I don't think you can be considered the best judge a show's likely success.
