But if he was a better director- he would have made the writers rewrite bad songs and script Harold Prince also had a number of flops/not-so-amazing shows under his belt with less than stellar songs and script. So that makes him a bad director as well? Absolutely not. Jerry Mitchell is a bad director.

Jerry Mitchell is a bad director. We will have to agree to disagree. He has an outstanding body of work to back up his many award-winning successes as top Broadway Director/Choreographer and I think TDWP is in the most capable hands imagineable. If nothing else, he rescued KINKY BOOTS from a disastrous Chicago tryout (detailed in Harvey Fierstein's autobio who gives him full praise and credit as a Director) and no doubt he will do the same here. :-)

Jerry is very hit or miss as a director - he either nails it or it's a complete wash out. So there's hope this could be a hit, but he's got an equal amount of shows that are badly directed so there's not 'no doubt' this won't go that way either...!

You have just named the track record of just about every musical theatre director out there. No director with more than a few Bway/West End musical credits has a solid, 100% batting score. The real test here will likely be the material, not the direction. Neither Mr Mitchell or any other director alive could have saved TDWP in Chicago, It was a mess in every respect, including design, though Anna Shapiro's direction certainly wasn't helping. But having seen most of his work as a choreographer/director (except for PRETTY WOMAN), going back to THE FULL MONTY on Broadway (in previews the summer of 2000) I can't point to anything he has done that I though was particularly bad.

The man who did Hairspray can't be all bad. But he is hit and miss, and I wouldn't want to see his Sweeney Todd, for example. But he is good at lighter shows.
To me these days he seems to take too much on, so doesn't seem to have time to really develop a project. It's become almost a production line of shows with no depth

I think he's a phenomenal choreographer almost without exception, just think he's less successful as a director.

Apologies if I've missed it but do we know when London press night is? Looking at the ticketing site there's no evening performance on sale for Monday 25th November so that would be my guess.

Apologies if I've missed it but do we know when London press night is? 27 November 2024, 28 November 2024, 29 November 2024, 30 November 2024, 1 December 2024, 4 December 2024 and 5 December 2024
*Under Embargo until 00:00 on 5 December 2024
I assume that this is meant to mean 00:00 on 6 December if press are still invited on 05 December - midnight can cause confusion sometimes....

Thanks. Would that make 5/12 Gala night or similar? Also any idea when cast would be announced?
