Is it true that they want Damien Lewis for Fagin and CHF for Nancy? And a Chichester run before transferring to the West End? (For Cameron’s production) Oh good grief not CHF. I actively avoid anything she’s in now and it would be a shame if I couldn’t see Oliver. has Damien Lewis been on stage since the loss of Helen McCrory? I would love to see him back at some point

I would love to see him back at some point He just released his first album and is touring with that - so sort of being on stage, I guess. Would love to see him on stage again, too, might even tolerate hearing CHF screech through "As long as he needs me" for him.

If this is really Chichester show next year prior to London does that mean it will replace Mormon or Hamilton? (Assuming its one of Camerons theatres)
Anything designed for Chichester would have to be vastly scaled up for TRDL so it doesnt get lost on that stage.

Drury Lane has the ability to be reconfigured so it doesn't have to be scaled up at Chichester.

The same person who told me the Chichester and casting rumours said that they want to do it at the Noël Coward and have it sell out for a while rather than do it at a barn like Drury Lane and struggle to fill it after the first couple of months, again no idea how accurate that is of course.

The Noel Coward would be fitting as that is the theatre where Oliver! debuted 60+ years ago and actually it would be good to see a smaller scale Oliver! the Palladium production came about because the original production had just become tired.

They can get rid of Hamilton now, I’m so over this show

The intention is to transfer to the Noel Coward a La Sixpence and as noted- the original production.
Cannot get excited about this at all I must say.

I expect they will want a young Nancy This was the theatre that cast South Pacific with only a five-year age gap between Nellie and Emile... (I like Gina Beck and she sang it beautifully, but 38 is pushing it when you're meant to have young innocent girl plus older experienced man and he's only 43!)

I do agree Nancy should be fairly young though — I know she sings As Long As He Needs Me, but I don't think she's really meaning 10+ years!

Mary Martin was 36 when she originated the role and lots of ladies of a similar age have played the role. She is described as young but I always assumed the character was over 30 probably mid 30's as she was a nursing officer I recall. But Emile is supposed to be older certainly about 50 IMO so there was a very small age gap unless the person playing him looked older or was made to look older. It could have worked if you'd had a "younger" Nellie but if the casting is often someone of Gina's age or often older then Emile needs to be visably a good decade older.

That had absolutely zero bearing on my enjoyment of SP. Literally could not care less about the age gap.

Oh most of the time it didn't, but there's a few bits where he says he's too old for her or that he'll die while his children are still young etc which just pulled me out of it a bit. Probably just as well I didn't go when she was pregnant. I also thought once or twice Nellie came across a bit... dim/unobservant, whereas if she'd been younger I'd have thought she was naive. But I suppose the naivety could just be being from a small town rather than to do with age. I'll go back to taking about Oliver! now, sorry for the drifting conversation!

Think CHF was right when she said she ‘doesn’t do accents’ Mrs Potts and Bert’s love child.

As if CHF wasn't bad enough.... Quite horrific. God knows how much his record company paid for that slot. The increase in sales will be neglible, if not negative. “Please can I return this? My nan already has it. “
