Saw the evening performance today. First time seeing it since I saw the original cast 2 and a half years ago, before it won all the awards, and it was just as funny as the first time I saw it. Quite a packed house, but given the choices of shows for a Sunday evening, its not surprising.
Was sat in E14 on the Stalls for £28 at TKTS. Great view.

As far as I can tell, plays on Broadway are largely just vehicles to parachute in Hollywood stars for a limited run before they go back about their business. It does seem extremely weird that they don't have their own long-runner to... well, not exactly *match* ours, but you get my point, but I guess that's Broadway for you.

I think Life With Father is their longest ever running play at over 7 years. They presumably mean they're the longest running play currently on at the mo

I'm just amazed that they don't have a single other play currently on that's run over 6 months. The UK tour cast are currently running in Hong Kong, if anyone's keeping up with their movements, to be folowed by New Zealand. I believe the show only now needs to play in Antarctica to have played on every continent! |

Nice to see Steven Rostance back with Mischief. Jonathan should suit him, given he was very good when covering Cooper in TCAABR.

I read here that there is a pre-show before the play. What time do you recommend getting to the theatre to see it? I'm going this Sunday at 7 pm. Also what happens during the pre-show?

About 15-20 minutes before the show starts, a few members of the cast and some of the understudies who aren't on that show, run around the auditorium asking people if they've seen a dog and shout out for it as if they've lost one. |

The 2018 tour starts tonight, in Northampton. I'd be very interested in any reviews of the new cast from anyone seeing the early tour stops. It doesn't get round to my local till the end of May and, unlike last year's cast, this year's haven't done a practice at the Duchess, so I have 6 months of suspense before I can see them. I'm also particularly interested, if anyone is seeing it in Chichester next week, as to how the staging is modified for Chichester's thrust stage.

Finally got round to seeing this last night (mostly thanks to the deal I got through GILT): the comments on the outside of the Duchess like 'made me cry with laughter' had always put me off somewhat, but I have to say I really enjoyed this, it was the funniest stage production I have seen in several years (it makes laughter/smile free rubbish like The Painkiller seem even more painfully, embarrassingly bad) : although sitting in the front row, I REALLY could have done without Chris Bean/Jack Baldwin pointing me out to the couple sat a couple of seats along from me with the uncontrollable giggles (and every other person there) and saying 'why can't you be like this man here? He's sat here for 45 minutes and hasn't laughed once!' I wasn't sat there like Statler without Waldorf, I was laughing on a regular basis (honestly).

Oh, I had forgotten how brilliant this show was. I last saw it two years ago with the original cast.
Everyone is great, especially the ladies. The only weak link is the actor playing Dennis imo.
Ready for act 2!

He was also in the 2nd West End cast of PPGW last winter so the casting people evidently like him. For me part of the problem is he's just too tall for the role. I know I'll probably get told off for criticising an actor's appearance but some of of the jokes connected with Dennis are just not as funny for me when he's the same height as the rest of the men than they are when he's the pathetic smaller one being towered over by the taller men. |

In my mind, without question, the best ensemble since the original cast.

I'd say that Max trying to help Dennis has been gradually coming in more over time, so presumably the new tour cast have added to that. I guess Chris could be older because he spends so much time on the drama society that he keeps failing his exams! |

Me and my American buddy were there very early and some of the actors started going round asking about a dog (forget its name now), then they sort of gave up and one of the actresses asked my friend if he could be the replacement dog. He agreed then she asked him to do his best dog impression so he barked manically at her and she recoiled in terror.  |

The dog's name is Winston. Hopefully there will be a guide dog turn up some time..

Saw the tour tonight and it was absolutely brilliant. Bit of an awkward moment with a technical fault that the audience at first thought was part of the show! Stopped for about 10 minutes then carried on.

Stopped for about 10 minutes then carried on. I've seen that at the Duchess. It's hardly surprising really that anyone seeing the show for the first time could easily get mixed up. I guess the tour cast wouldn't have the freedom to turn that to their advantage but I have seen the original cast do so brilliantly. |

It was my first time but I shall definitely go again, thoroughly enjoyed it.
