The Union Theatre will be presenting Bad Girls: The Musical from 9th March - 3rd April, co-directed by Will Keith and Sasha Regan.

Oh cool. I saw the original London production and enjoyed it.
And the original ITV show was not "bad" - except maybe the final couple of series.
The first 5 series were superb drama - gritty and uncompromising - and received much critical acclaim at the time.

I saw this. [My son is a mechanic who fixed black cabs at the time. He was given free tickets by a driver.] It was rubbish.

They've done Loserville and Our House, Bad Girls sounds right up their street. Remember it previously played the West End (in the Garrick, no less, same as Loserville iirc). |

Booked ticket for the 29 March...never seen it, really enjoyed 'Our House' so said I would go back...I really want this to be trashy!!!

I would have preferred to have seen Prisoner Cell Block H: The Musical revived though - long overdue, and what with the popularity of Wentworth Prison any production could capitalise on...

I saw it last week at press night. Quite a few of the cast of the TV series were in the audience and they had a photo afterwards with the cast and their opposite numbers.
I thought there were some pretty entertaining numbers in there, but I found the book deeply dodgy - partly constrained I guess by the characters from the original TV show. I wasn't completely sold on the casting of a couple of the parts, but I later noticed on twitter that someone had to do an emergency cover that night, so it's possible that this coincided with who I wasn't convinced by.
Certainly not the worst thing I've seen at the Union. I'm not sorry I went.

I saw the show a couple of weeks ago. I loved the TV series, but have not seen the DVD of the musical.
I really enjoyed the show, some catchy numbers and a steady cast. One or two that didn't take my fancy, but we can't all like everyone. My main moan, which I have always found at the Union, is that they are not mic'd and at times it was hard to hear the cast, especially when they were facing the other way. I would have enjoyed the show a lot more had I been able to hear it all clearly.
However saying that I did enjoy it and deffo worth a watch! And for only £20 you can't knock it really.

Saw Bad Girls last Sunday and really enjoyed it. Some great songs in the score - the Book is a little flawed but I guess it helps if you loved the TV series (I was an avid watcher of it!) Some really terrific performances in the cast too - especially from Sinead Long as Shell Dockley, Imelda Warren-Green as Denny Blood and the always fantastic Ceili O'Connor as Nikki Wade.
As for the sound - I've seen dozens of shows at the Union and even my ancient ears have had not problem hearing and understanding every syllable. Intimate spaces such as this never use mics - and do not need to when the cast are basically close enough to shake hands with the audience. And I have to say that I thought the Bad Girls cast in particular had pretty much perfect diction. To be honest, I much prefer the "unplugged" and far more natural sound to the heavily synthetic sound that a mic'd performance would create.

I was expecting to either love or hate this one. I actually came out ambivalent. I think it was quite ambitious covering the whole of Bad Girls Season 1 (and some nods to later seasons) in a single musical. Consequently most of the characters didn't seem very fleshed out and the story was pretty rushed. I couldn't work out if it was better to know the tv show or not.
There were some decent songs and great choreography throughout. Plus the usual added thrill you get at the Union of sitting in the front row and wondering if you're going to be kicked in the face. Thankfully no flailing limbs but the guy next to me had a narrow miss with a wayward tea caddy.
The comedy elements were a bit hit and miss. The biscuits were a real highlight! I thought the scenes involving the Julies were great (including the more serious solo while Julie 1 is on the phone to David - I thought she stole the show in that scene). But I found the Fenner/Bodybag comedy duo numbers quite awkward to watch. He was suitably sinister on his own but together they seemed quite panto.
I agree with earlier comments on the lack of microphones. I usually really like stripped back shows with no microphones because they give good singers a chance to really show off on a level playing field. But equally they can show up weaker singers and I thought a couple of people were quite badly drowned out by the band/other singers.
On balance though I thought it was a good show and I'm glad I saw it.

Enjoyed this evening, I have seen very little of the television show (just know of it!) & only knew the opening number going in this eve.
There are some great numbers in this piece & it's a talented game cast - Hats off to them being un mic'd (previously seen 'Our House' at the Union) I really love fringe in an enclosed setting & felt very much as if the musical was being played direct to me.
An enjoyable evening had, bit different spectre tomorrow..meeting up with family for Phantom!!
