Disappointing casting choice. A singer with minimal acting experience whose voice seems wrong for the role, and an imbalance of ages between the two. And yeah personally not a fan of either so that's a wait for it on Netflix.
Could have been a great opportunity to do a hairspray and cast unknowns as the leads and fill the supporting cast with names.

Ariana Grande has one hell of a set of pipes, so I'm looking forward to this!

Nobody saying they’re too old to be playing high schoolers then? AG is the same age as Ben Platt and Erivo is 35!

I'm disappointed they didn't take the opportunity to cast relative unknowns from the Broadway community (though I know both have musical theatre backgrounds so that is something at least).
Ariana Grande has a great voice but it strikes me as as Elphaba voice rather than a G(a)linda. But we'll see.
Not a fan of Cynthia anymore at all, her attitude has turned me off from formerly being a fan, so really disappointed by her being cast instead of one of the many very talented lesser-known Broadway names who would have been perfect (I was hoping for Emmy Raver-Lampman personally but there are many brilliant other options). Not convinced she will act it as well as the part deserves, but I hope I'm proved wrong.

Nobody saying they’re too old to be playing high schoolers then? AG is the same age as Ben Platt and Erivo is 35! They both look younger, and neither part has ever really been cast to age! It doesn't matter in the way it did for DEH. Also as I've just been reminded elsewhere, Elphaba is meant to be older than Glinda as she was only sent to Shiz to look after her younger sister. Plus there is a huge time gap between Act 1 and Act 2. There are issues with these casting choices in terms of acting suitability in my opinion (and possibly vocally on Ariana's part), but not age.

I'll add this to the "must miss" list right after "Cats."

Very disappointing. Glinda is supposed to be a completely different type and requires an excellent actress. And a singer whose strong point is articulation. For Elphaba I would have loved to see someone humble and grounded. I am surprised that someone with such attitude problems is able to get a role like this. I haven't forgotten about the misplaced tantrums to fans, the Comet of 1812 debacle and her very out of line twitter posts. Elphaba should have more layers and also requires a stronger actress, not just someone who revels in the victim role. I have never seen her play other characteristics in a strong or believable way, and the essence of the role of Elphaba is the opposite of that. Also, I think she has a beautiful voice in softer, lighter parts, but her voice-type is wrong for the score of Elphaba. Elphaba requires all the long, loud, straight notes (Wizard and I, No good deed, Defying Gravity), and Erivo always goes to her head voice, cuts notes short or riffs them down or breaks them off. In a way they are both too poppy/soul for this material. Not expecting much of the singing and acting here. Don't have much sympathy for these personalities in these characters either. Not a good start.

I had no idea that big stars communicated by flower. It's a whole new world. I wonder if different colours have different meanings?
At least Ariana Grande wrote her own card, though she does seem to have a problem with capitals!

Disappointed with the casting; I was hoping they would cast Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber as the leads.

It’s funny that we’ve heard Cynthia sing a Glinda song and Ariana sing an Elphaba song but never a song by their characters.

Whether you like Cynthia or not, she is a phenomenal talent- she can act and has a superb voice. Not sure on Ariana's acting but she has a good pop voice and seems likeable enough.

At least Ariana Grande wrote her own card, though she does seem to have a problem with capitals! Whenever Ernest Borgnine wanted to chat to me he would send hundreds of flowers; you’d have to know their names then re-arrange the first letter of each to form a sentence. Took days. I’d be like, “Borgy, just ring mate yeah? But no the flowers continued…when he moved on to leaves if was just too much and I said we couldn’t be mates any more. Sad really.

Personally very excited for this, finally it’s coming Ariana should be fine, you see how pop stars like Gaga can win awards with stand out performances mostly worried in how they’ll set Oz up, CGI sucks if done wrong

She has a superb voice, I agree. However, acting-wise she was great in The Colour Purple but hasn't otherwise convinced me her acting is anything exceptional. And Elphaba is a very different prospect from Celie.

Not a good start. Can you point at the doll where Cynthis Erivo hurt you? You don't think she is a strong actress? Did you not see her in The Color Purple? And when she has been in a stage musical, i have very rarely heard her stray from what is written on the page. Just because she hurt your feelings on Twitter doesn't mean she isn't right for any role.

She has an Oscar nomination for acting and it's a movie musical, not a very profound piece of drama (no offence), I think she'll do OK. if we are worried about acting, then we should worry about Ariana.
