Soon the Wicked London gossip account will be saying Alice Fearn is in talks for Elphaba for this too I remember someone saying recently on twitter that they heard Emma Hatton would be a smart casting choice for Elphaba in the movie... I nearly died. I mean, lets be honest, its a very, very short list of Elphaba's around the world who can pull off the part and are well known enough Internationally to play the role... Kerry Ellis, Willemijn Verkaik, Jennifer DiNoia, The Queen of Green... need I go on?? Emma or Alice would be the perfect choice but it wont happen, the Elphaba will probs be Willemijn or some random celeb

I find it very difficult to picture either of these two in the role on film.

Who is to say that Nicole is not going to be Morrible, a part she is more suited to agewise.

No one is denying some prefer Alice or Emma love, you don't have to get so defensive over them or territorial all the time. We are just saying, at least on Broadway and in the West End, Willemijn, Kerry and Rachel are alot more well known as Elphaba than those two, to a point where Alice and Emma will probably go on and play other musical roles easily, whereas Rachel, Willemijn and Kerry, even though they have gone on to do different things, have always and will most likely always be remembered mostly for Wicked and may struggle to shake that image. Its hard to deny that, of the West End Elphaba's at least, they are the most well known of the group. Not judging on talent or skill, but just on how long they have done the role/where they have done the role etc.

A paper reporting Nicole S has signed up for the next series of X factor, which would probably clash with filming.
Shame...

I don't want to start an argument here and I'm just picking up on something now even though the conversation's moved on but Alice being in the Les Mis movie is hardly "film experience" ๐ I'm guessing she played a prostitute or a townsperson or something? So did Kerry and Gina and I think maybe Dianne and Louise too. I've been on camera before in various Welsh TV shows but I don't think that means I'm ready to make my Fiyero debut in Wicked The Movie ๐

As great as Alice or Emma may be, they are never going to be given a staring role in a Hollywood movie!

Although we shouldn't forget, one of the stars of Les Mis, Samantha Barks, got the role having only played it on the West End and the 25th Anniversary... so I wouldn't say one of the more well known Elphaba's is completely out of the possibilities, but highly unlikely.

I actually think Sam would be a great choice for Elphaba, and isn't an unknown in musical cinema. Also on the topic of Samantha, I may be in the minority, but if all the fuss over Anne wasn't as big as it was (she was incredible, but still!), I think Samantha was equally deserving of an Oscar nomination. Especially over someone like Jackie Weaver, who granted was great in Siver Linings Playbook, but it was a tiny part, and Samantha earned a nomination more.

My only wish for the movie is for Megan Hilty to play Glinda, she is a seasoned pro at the show and the part and obviously has the vocal chops and range to pull Glinda off, and most importantly is a STELLAR actress and a lot of Glinda replacements tend to overact, she also has plenty of screen (and musical screen) experience headlining the hit NBC drama Smash for multiple seasons, Megan is genuine and naturalistic, whilst still ensuring that Glinda is a big character. As for the other roles I have no one in particular, don't get me wrong, I LOVE Anna Kendrick but I'm not sure if this is her role, she has the acting and singing skills, and although a vary agile voice and diverse repertoire of styles, I still feel even her belting range is not meaty or strong in timbre enough for Elphaba, although I think Cinderella in Into The Woods and also the Last Five Years suited her perfectly...Both were adaptations of theatre smashes!!!!!!
Samantha Barks is an interesting choice although I think she would have a lot of work stepping up to essentially the central and title role tha moulds the whole piece, Eponine was a principal but not nearly as central as Elphaba is in Wicked.
Meryl would obviously be amazing as Madame Morrible but I don't know if she would do another musical theatre (and fantasy one at that) adaptation to film so soon after playing the Witch in Into THe Woods...... I did see Imelda Staunton mentioned earlier would could potentially be magnificent!!!!!!

Thinking about Imelda Staunton, I'm pretty sure Madame Morrible and Professor Umbridge are the same person! They're both characters you love to hate

So since this movie was originally announced, how many other stage musicals have been adapted for film?
What is it with this ones production that they canโt seem to get past first gear?
