Was it also at The Comedy Theatre (now Harold Pinter?) I seem to remember seeing it there and sitting behind that American woman from Vogue with the distinctive haircut and sunglasses. She didn't come back after the interval. Meryl Streep? 😬 Does Meryl Street have a distinctive haircut and always wear sunglasses? 🤔 |

Saw this in Richmond - Felicity Kendal was Felicity Kendal but she's pretty close to the part in real life ... Not really. I don't know if they still do it but in the programme for the original production they included a fictional programme for the play they are putting on which gives Dotty Otley's backstory. She is a very grand actress who has achieved fame for playing a working-class character in a long-running soap. Her part in this play "Nothing On" is cashing in on that - she's absolutely the star of the play which is entirely a vehicle for her. Felicity Kendal has never played working-class and doesn't come across either as a grand dame (though she may be). There's no real sense in this production that she's the only star actor in "Nothing On" who absolutely must be indulged at all costs. Patricia Routledge was ideal casting. |

I wasn't sure of her surname and as I've never seen the film I didn't know about the Meryl Streep reference. Anyway she left at the interval |

Finally got Rush tix for this on second attempt to go past payment page ? Anyone else have issues ? I had tickets for allegiance then payment page took so long to go through times me out then. Lost them 😳
But I’ve seen a few different productions of this way back and loved it one west end production way back my parents were in hysterics my mother fell off her seat literally ! I think that was Peter Egan and Patricia hodge ?
And another production was Maggie steed playing dotty Sylvester McCoy Selsdon a great production too so was looking forward to this as felicity Kendal is a real idol of mine .
Circle was full looked full else where too and huge applause screams and cheers (maybe family ?) for me there was something missing had all the elements but they just don’t seem to gel at moment ….. felicity maybe mis cast ? She was very quiet 🤫 throughout …. I’d give it 3 ⭐️ the last Scene worked better but still lots of missed opportunities

One of the funniest running gags from previous productions is sadly missing … they used to duck every time they walked past the windows in the second scene when it was backstage hilarious visuals they all did was glaringly missing here .
My saving grace was Tracy Ann Oberon she had some hilarious asides looks to the audience little giggles I’ve not seen in other productions she seems to have it sussed. Rest of the cast were good but not outstanding considering is the 40th anniversary production
I got seats for £25 anything over this I’d feel robbed
For many years sometimes my partner and I have quoted Spain there all in Spain at random times stuck in our head hope this gets better once all settled

I quite enjoyed this (having not heard of or seen previous productions). It was similar to 'The Play That Goes Wrong', but the comedy came more from interpersonal conflict rather than set pieces falling apart. The first 'rehearsal' section was a little long, but I think it was semi necessary in order for us to understand all the bits that go wrong/change in the next 2 iterations. In general, some of the bits are probably drawn out a bit too long, but it was consistently amusing, even if it never reaches top comedic heights.
The acting was good throughout, but special shout out to Joseph Millson who literally rolls down the stairs.
Stalls was decently full (maybe 80%?), not sure what the Circles were like.

Seeing this tonight. Excited for my first theatre trip in what feels like an age after a very busy time at work! I found the Old Vic transfer that I saw riotously funny so I'm hoping this can scale those heights!

This production looks like the last one has been running on tour for the last 10 years with ever diminishing returns. It really was a shadow of the Old Vic production. Some very good cast members, notably Tracy-Ann Oberman and Joseph Millson, but a few who weren't up to the job either. It was an entertaining enough night out due to the source material, but quite disappointing overall. Especially disappointed as we took our parents for a Christmas gift and normally pride ourselves on finding a winner for them. |

After some of the reviews here, I was expecting to be disappointed, but this was great fun tonight. I laughed enough, but there were plenty of people near me in complete hysterics.
Picked up a front row seat through TodayTix rush, which is an excellent view and a low stage. The stage is low for this production.
In case anyone's not sure, there is only one interval in this version, they just take a couple of minutes to reset between acts two and three. So everything is completed by 21:50.
I thought all of the cast were very good and recent addition to the team, Katherine Kingsley, fit right in. I've only seen this live once before, which was the 2013 tour, and I much preferred the performance I saw tonight.

This got called off about 25 minutes into the show tonight! The stage manager came on to announce a technical issue, I believe with one of the lighting machines. (It had been causing some audible beeping whilst the actors were speaking.) To be honest, given the plot of the play it did take a while for it to sink in for everyone that it wasn't a joke!
Anyway, they tried to fix it but after 30 minutes had to call it a day. A shame but I don't think I'll rebook because I got my ticket at a good sale price and I doubt I'll find a similar bargain.

Saw this this afternoon. I really enjoyed it. Tbf I was there with a friend who’d done it in am dram a very long time ago, (I was her teenage babysitter and I’m 52!), and the memories came flooding back for both of us! It’s a very cleverly constructed play, and very well performed here.
One thing, for those who’ve seen it, the cactus scene…we nearly saw a lot more of Gary than I think we were supposed to…!
