Seems an odd choice for Gabrielle in that role, no?

Yes, but you figure Bill Deamer will get her to dance somehow.

Yes, but you figure Bill Deamer will get her to dance somehow. You could easily give Maggie some choreo in Keep Young and Beautiful and/or Shuffle Off to Buffalo, or just get her to join in with the girls in Go Into Your Dance. Also, the full cast is listed on the Leicester Curve website.

Oh WOW - where did you hear this? A source very close to her aka her husband/co-star/other person mentioned in the post!

She wasn't on the 42nd street website which is why I questioned - but you're quite right she is on the Curve website! 🥳

I know. I thought I'd been given some first class theatre gossip - only to now find out it's already in the public domain, just not where you'd expect to find it!
I guess a three-time Olivier nominee and former Broadway leading lady isn't worth mentioning on the show website!!

Which is...wild...
Also hoping the fact she's not doing the tour means she's headed to the Gielgud in September to belt out some Sondheim for 4 months ✌️

Why is this being brought back AGAIN?! Only 10 years after Curve last did it. It's got one of the lamest books in musical theatre.

Ten years is nothing.
The same shows seem to go round and round again every single year.
I really hope this does well.

Saw the first performance of this in Leicester last night and thought it was absolutely fantastic! It's obviously not got quite as glamorous sets as the Drury Lane production did, but the cast and choreography are absolutely stellar (barring Les Dennis who was bearable).
Was unfortunately not sold very well in the circle but hopefully sales will pick up once reviews start coming in

I was almost tempted when Michael Praed was mentioned, despite Ruthie. But this, I just can't. It looks so dull and small and sort of wrinkly - that tiny little staircase! I think I need a bit longer before I'll be able to watch someone making a stab at this again, unless it's so different that I can't make the comparison (I'm thinking massive outdoor production where people come tapping down the aisle or something).

I think if I'd never seen a production of 42nd Street then I would go and see this but I know I would be disappointed as I saw the Drury Lane production 11 times and nothing can ever compare with it. Everything about that production was huge, massive cast, massive orchestra, massive staircase and I have so many wonderful memories of it. I'm sure this will be lovely but just not for me.

I know it won’t live up to the Drury Lane production, but I would like to see this before the cast changes for the tour. Though it would involve a 12-hour trip and cost over £100*thud*
So it’s looking like the tour in Liverpool will have to do. Will wait to see if there’s any offers, but the Empire’s a bit tight when it comes to giving money off.

I have a single ticket for 42nd Street on 29th June, 7.30pm at Sadler’s Wells.
I paid £30 for it from London Theatre Direct but would let it go for £20, which is cheaper than anywhere else for this seat.
Second circle, row C, seat 27.
Drop me a message if interested.

Does anyone have a list of the orchestra in this production? I do - 4 reeds, 3 trumpets, 2 trombones, 1 French horn, 1 double bass, and drums.

Saw this yesterday afternoon at the Curve Leicester with its huge stage and can confirm 42nd Street is in fine shape with all the colour, fabulous dancing and stellar performances that made the previous incarnation so special. Didn't really miss the mirror effects at all. It was 42nd Street at Drury Lane that first got me hooked on front row musical theatre.
Ruthie Henshall is the perfect Dorothy Brock and I'm relieved I've got a booking at Sadlers Wells to see her again but the real star is Nicole-Lily Baisden, a most worthy successor to Clare Halse as Peggy Sawyer. Her dancing is truly breathtaking. Loved the whole cast though, even Les Dennis.
The front row is usually A at the Curve with generous legroom but due to the orchestra it's C for 42nd Street and very poor legroom, my only minor disappointment.

Was the staircase not as small/disappointing as it looks in the pics? Seeing it in a massive theatre on tour and worried it will look lost

I agree with FrontroverPaul, I reviewed it at Curve on Tuesday and thought it was great. It was never going to top the scale and spectacle of Drury Lane but it's still really well done and the dance sequences are fabulous. The staircase still looks good, not as jaw-dropping but still a great moment. It was lovely to see Ruthie in a show again. The voice has lessened, it's definitely not what it was, but echoes of it remain and she's still good. She plays Dorothy more like Norma Desmond and if she could hit the big notes of Sunset Boulevard I'd love to see her in that. And Nicole is really good too, she more than makes up for the vanilla turn she gave in Anything Goes.
