Thank you for that, I wasn't even aware they had done it before. I have always enjoyed the CD of the first production at the Donmar and am actually having a shot at seeing this in July, so thanks.

Seems strange to be opening with a production they've already done. For me The Fix was a good production of a problematic show, not something exceptional.

Agreed, mallardo. I'm keen to see the new Union, and I enjoyed The Fix first time round, but not enough to go see it again.

I guess the US Presidential Election this year made it a fitting choice, with the hope that it will get some added spice from topicality. My memory of it is that the storyline was enjoyably fanciful re. American politics; but whether it benefits or suffers from proximity to real facts and events remains to be seen. Also, we are already in a political phase - with Trump - that is both beyond parody, and incredibly serious; so the storyline of 'The Fix' may end up looking a bit toothless in comparison.

Good shows are being repeated giving people a second chance who missed it first time round, seems all the go at the moment i.e. Titanic/Ragtime.

I very much approve, since those short runs at fringe theatres mean, I often miss out. Still sore that I missed both Carrie and Xanadu at Southwark and I hope they will repeat those as well some day (or that another theatre will do them).
I see tht the Union Theatre updated their website today and it now includes The Fix, but as yet I can't book tickets.

Seems strange to be opening with a production they've already done. For me The Fix was a good production of a problematic show, not something exceptional. I remember hearing that the first season at the 'new' union would be revivals of some the Union's best received shows. |

Not a terrible idea and really a very good idea.
As an ardent theatre fan, who goes plenty, this gives me ahance to see stuff I missed, such as Billy and The Bakers Wife, chance to see stuff I have already seen again, such as The Beautiful Game and Chess or stuff I want to avoid all together, which I won't comment on and allow me to see other theatre, which I would miss.

I agree £25 is a bit of a steep hike in price from £18, sometimes this didn't sell out, so because it is a new venue,modest mean it will sell, people go for the show not the venue.
Perhaps they can take leaf out of the Southwark Playhouse system and do a 5x ticket carnet.
However congratulations to Sasha Reagan, who found and runs this place and also has to direct shows and I know she is a mum too, which all this can't be easy.

There will be a 25th Anniversary production of Godspell happening at the Union, not sure whether it will directly follow The Fix! |

I guess with a larger venue and some added profile for the reopening they have to anticipate paying actors under the Fringe agreement like the King's Head, Hope Theatre and Jermyn Street do. Don't know if they are yet, but the Low Pay/No Pay debate goes on. |

Just booked tickets for this & Moby Dick Musical. Does the Union Theatre have an unallocated seating policy? I've never been before and I didn't get a seat number with my order..

They usually give you a little numbered ticket on arrival, and announce you into the auditorium in batches (numbers 1-10... Followed by 11-20 etc.) this was in the original arch though, but I assume they are adopting this approach at its new home. |

Saw the matinee yesterday in a very hot Union Theatre - how the actors didn't melt in full dress I don't know.
It was ok, but nothing special. I was rather disappointed by Fra Fee who I have never seen before, but other people have been very positive about. His voice seemed to just "disappear" several times, and never seemed very strong. Did I see him on a bad day?
Generally the cast were pretty good though, it was the musical itself which I had the problem with. Ken Christiansen and Lucy Williams particularly good.
On the plus side I liked the new theatre and bar space, though how I wish they would just do numbered seats rather than the 10 at a time ticket scrum. I had tickets 8 & 9 and struggled to get through the waiting people to get to the door when called.

Agree with Jelly Bean above. I didn't think Fra Fee could sing the score to be honest, it was too high for him and he struggled with the top register.
Yes it was hot too on the night I saw it and although the show was OK it was no more than that. I felt either the show or the production lacked light and shade. Dissappointed with it on the whole.
However, the full audience seemed to love it but I was very underwhelmed. You have to be careful these days voicing an opinion that isn't wideley agreed with though - so I tend to keep my mouth shut.
The new Union seems rather unfinished. The ridiculous scrum for seats. No food available before the show.
