With no day seats on offer direct from the Box Office (TT and TKTS appear to be the main source for cheap day tickets at the moment), I got a £30 stalls seat (P32) from TT for today’s matinee. There where still plenty of empty seats near me with some people deciding to relocate to them prior to the show starting, We had 2 covers on with Chris Gopaul as Smokey R / Damon Harris and Natalie Brown as Josephine. During the show you can easily tell that the show’s creative team is the same one from Jersey Boys with the minimalist sets on offer. There was plenty of use of video screens to indicate tour locations and particular relevant news items of the time.
Where this show wins big is the cast and oh boy do they deliver the goods. Superb vocals and slick choreography made for a really great time at the Prince Edward. All the guys who play the different Temptations are top notch in both departments and are an absolute joy to watch on stage. I will say that Matt Manuel as David Ruffin is incredible and his singing is worth the ticket price alone. Also a big shoutout to the. 3 ladies who play the Supremes. They are another big win here.
The 12 piece orchestra did a great job in bringing these iconic songs to life and with great sound mixing I could really sit back and enjoy the music without any issues.
I will say that as a massive Jukebox musical fan, this was a really enjoyable show and to my amazement, we didn’t have any bad behaviour from the audience who seemed very subdued and didn’t even try a sing along (I thought that maybe “My Girl” would of been a sing along) or try and get some cheeky phone photos of recordings during the show. It certainly made for a very relaxed afternoon at the theatre. I will say that I was really surprised that there wasn’t any kind of encore / audience participation sing along at the end that you normally get with these kind of shows. Despite this, I certainly was thoroughly entertained this afternoon and was worth the watch.

I went to yesterdays matinee. It was OK but I won’t rush back. The show is virtually the same format as Jersey Boys, but not as smooth or slick. The dance routines were often out of sync and the noise of the actors hand clapping (constant), was deafening, the sound levels need sorting there. But the audience was abysmal; arm waving, singing, ear piercing whistles all from women who should know better. I hope this doesn’t clog up the Prince Edward for too long

Is stalls row C OK or would I be better moving to row E? Worried about seeing the dancing.

Is Tosh back now? He’s off this afternoon but it does say Matt Manuel plays David Ruffin at select performances anyway.

Tosh has tweeted that he will be performing at West End Live tomorrow so maybe he will also do the matinee tomorrow.

Matt had his final show on Saturday, so Tosh should be back in now.
Does anyone know if there are any prebookable discount tickets for this at all?
Thanks :-)

Thanks :-) Final scheduled show, he is around for another week or so, just in case. As with all theatre any specific actor cannot be guaranteed but yes, Tosh is back 😊

Anyone know if Tosh has any holiday dates coming up? I know Matt is going back to the USA tomorrow so Tosh is officially back full time, baring illness etc which would be covered by understudies and swings. I don’t know if any holidays but my friend is going to try and find out and we’ll share if allowed. Great seeing the love for Tosh!

I absolutely loved him in The Drifter’s Girl so have booked this primarily to see him, but know ‘no specific cast member’s appearance is guaranteed’ etc etc! There’s some good offers around this weekend so I’ve booked for the week after next. Will have everything crossed I get to see him.

Crikey! At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to close it early and put something else in for a limited run pre and post-Christmas ahead of MJ moving in.

I wouldn't mind seeing Dear England at the Prince Edward but they'd have to adapt the set.

It's not good that so many shows seem to be struggling badly.

Agreed. Really worrying. It seems similar with concerts too - at this time of year there’s so many outdoor shows and festivals running, and there seem to be an awful lot of them popping up on seat filling sites.
I can only assume the cost of living and rising mortgage bills is biting, and of course a trip to the theatre or a night out at a concert is a non-essential item. Disposable incomes have apparently dropped 20% in the past year so people have to cut back somewhere.
Inevitably the banker shows are still doing well - Les Mis, Phantom, Mamma Mia etc, but I’m sure mid-week they aren’t immune. Shows like Ain’t Too Proud or Crazy For You though, which the average casual theatre-goer is less familiar with, will inevitably but sadly find it harder to sell.

It's not good that so many shows seem to be struggling badly. I just feel like the UK audience wouldn’t care as much for this show as the US. I know they had hits in the UK and probably have a big following here, but there just never seemed enough hype.
