With the obvious exception the casting just feels so meh yet still incredibly expensive. Are they relying on Amadeus's reputation to get the punters to pay £45+ because that casting won't.
The issue, I think, is that Rufus just doesn't seem to have the links that Hytner had built up over the years, perhaps it was a nepotistic but there were actors that made the NT their home and whilst I encourage variety and opportunity I think you need a name to sell a production, especially at the NT's current prices.

Nothing is ever sold out at the NT, despite what the NT says and whilst I cannot speak for everyone I thought a bigger name (or names) would be attached to such a high profile production. I will go because it is a play I want to see but it is yet another production full of next to unknown actors, which would be fine in one of London's excellent fringe venues but not when it is one of the most expensive theatres in the city, despite the subsidies.

Come on, NT never had a star in EVERY production they staged, even in Hytner era. I imagine with Amadeus the draw is a major revival of a famous play and not long since the playwright has *sadly* died.. Helen McCrory is in The Deep Blue Sea, Nathan Lane and Andrew Garfield will be in Angels next spring, Ruth Wilson is leading Hedda soon, Mark Strong is in new Hare's play, Sophie Tompkinson is in Peter Pan (I don't know how famous she is though). There are sill actors that "made their home" at The National like Rory Kinnear, Olivia Vinall, Rosalie Graig. Shows are NOT sold out. Never. Ever. Everyone who read Daniel Rosenthal's epic book knows that, but the demand for Amadeus is pretty good still. Even though my personal choice for Mozart would be John Heffernan

I met him (accidentally, during Chekhov Three-Play-Day) in August and had a little chat with him mentioning that there's not nearly enough of him in theatre and I'm waiting for his new works - he laughed and said: So am I!

A couple of years ago he played Fool in the Chichester King Lear. He is a sucker for punishment. His is as good as Simon Russell-Beale was at the same age, he should be at the NT.

John Heffernan would be an excellent Mozart, but that's because John Heffernan is an excellent actor generally. I don't know that I'd immediately cast him in the role myself though, he's maybe not as obviously boyish as I'd like for a Mozart. Joshua McGuire at Chichester was a SUPERB piece of casting, just a shame the production wasn't as up-to-much as it should have been. I don't really know Adam Gillen (apparently I saw him in School For Scandal at the Barbican?), but I trust Michael Longhurst an awful lot so I'm sure he'll be great. (I think I saw Harry Melling in the same School For Scandal actually, so I guess Deborah Warner has dibs on him. Lucky Deborah, he too is superb!)

The muse is clearly sitting on Lucy Kirkwood's shoulders at the moment - that will be two premieres in six months, after the Royal Court production of The Children.
*Mosquitos* is a gift title for reviewers - either it will be an 'infectious' new play, or it will suck.

Every one of the new Amadeus dates in January is Monday to Thursday. Why does this show have such an aversion to weekends? Because it's in rep with family show Peter Pan whose primary audience prefers weekends.

Thought the David Everett production would have came up from the South Coast and failing getting a West End theatre, should have came to the National.
With the National production currently 'sold out' there is obviously an appetite for it, so imagine how well the above would have sold?
This time of the year the national normally announce a mini-extention to their artistic programme?

Putting in a certain voucher code emptied my basked, so I didn't get the ticket for HG I wanted, but luckily I got another suitable date. So a bit more stressful than necessary.
Got also cheap tickets for Peter Pan, Red Barn and Amadeus on the days I wanted.
I hate that the day seats in the Olivier are now in the back row of the circle :-(

Just booked Hedder. Interestingly, got straight into the site. WARNING: Something odd in the credit card payments. Nabbed a £15 stalls seat, and got through to "processing card" with the bank symbol on the screen... Then it came up with "technical difficulties" (Sheridan Smith works at the National's computer desk, who knew?). Then, when I hit the back button, it told me my basket was empty and try booking again. Obviously, the £15 seat had gone, so I was just looking at another performance WHEN (lucky I had my Inbox open) an email arrived, confirming my original ticket. Be aware, is all I'm saying. Exactly the same thing happened to me and I did try again and ended up with 2 adjacent tickets. But I had tweeted them about the issues and they will be able to see that I used 2 different cards because the website suggested trying another, so they had better give me a full refund!

Got through and got my tickets fairly easily today. In fact, I may now throw Rufus another £1.73 to go towards the revolve fund.

Well that was relatively painless... got through quite quickly on my phone, couldn't choose a seat and kept getting allocated nosebleed seats or middle of the front row (cricked neck, no thanks). Waited with bated breath for my PC to trickle through the queue... grabbed a £15 seat for The Red Barn. Success!

I got what I wanted with a minimum of fuss, but I really can't stand the way they display the seating plan and yet still you have to click on it to load it again before you can select your seat, it's a ridiculous piece of design that just adds stress when you really could do without it.

I really don't know why they did that. Good web design calls for as few clicks as possible. Why add a completely pointless step to the booking process?! On the plus side, I noticed they're letting you move more easily between dates within the booking system. So that's a win.

Managed to get a front row seat for Hedda Gabler without having to do too much searching - going by some of the previous posts, I was expecting nothing to be left, so I'm extremely pleased with this.

For Deep Blue Sea it was even taken further from the front row so a perfect view..

UPD ticket's gone I grabbed a £15 seat for Red Barn and lived a happy life for about 10 minutes. After that I realised that I've doublebooked myself I don't want to loose 2 pounds on returning the ticket, maybe someone here is interested in buying it from me? Giving it for face value, obviously The Red Barn Thursday 12 January 2017 2:15pm Lyttelton Stalls D:4 Full Price = GBP 15.00
