I saw a preview of this last week and I have been meaning to start a thread. I was reminded this morning when I saw it opened and got this 5 stars from WoS. I think that's a little generous but not by all that much. Project Dictator is a play of two very distinct halves without an interval and my main note would be that an interval or a slight piece of exposition between the two halves would have been welcome. Other than that, the first 40 minutes or so is comedy, two clowns when a show goes wrong because the guy who plays 'everyone else' (literally taped to his back), wants to be the lead and hijinks ensue with an increasingly dark bent. The second 30 minutes sees two clowns, now in traditional clown grab forced to performs specific more traditional clown routines and we the audience are instructed by a flashing board to appluad - with a degree of threat implied! Laughed a whole lot at this and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a friend staying for the weekend and it was his first theatre trip in years, he also enjoyed it and as I think the sign of a good show, we were still talking about it in the pub about an hour afterwards. Runs until the end of April and I think very much worth a look. Also, ND has a deal with Domino's for sponsorship and so after every show, there is a lot of free pizza, more than enough to feed the audience, ND staff and the show's cast and creatives. Less than 80 minutes through, no interval. Some gentle audience participation invited but not forced or mean or off-putting. If you can draw, it's worth volunteering at one point, if you can't, well it's just as funny.
