HATED the books
As they read as if a simpleton wrote them
Made me retch reading them
Films were boring drab and annoying acting
THIS
THIS is what it was made for

Everyone seems to be gushing about how amazing it is.. Is it first-preview-itis? Or maybe it really is that good.. I cannot wait! This is only part 1, part 2 might be complete rubbish although I doubt that will be the case. This is the Harry Potter equivalent of The Force Awakens so I imagine the pressure for it to be good was very high

Perhaps the 2 invited dress performances have helped that process along

Most new shows can't afford the luxury of private previews and the enhanced rehearsal period that goes with it. The Potter brand meant that they could do that, safe in the knowledge that they would get the money back.

Heck, I'm certain it already has (if not, they must have spent even more than a ton, considering the first year is a virtual sell out). I wonder when we'll get Broadway confirmed.. immediately after press night would be a good guess (July 31st, for characterful reasons).

What was it like getting into the Theatre with all the focus on security and pictures of long queues? Is it best to get there an hour before like they advise?

JKR confirmed the 'private previews' as dress rehearsals. I'm sure every show has dress rehearsals - with or without a paying audience. You'd be surprised at how ofen the first public performance is also the first runthrough without having to stop or with staging issues resolved. TIme is an expensive luxury.

I'd assume the UK would have another extension before a transfer is confirmed. But both are inevitable really. I think from a business point of view they might want to recoup first? Given the run is sold out, it's likely has a huge advance that will lead to a quick recoupment. The budget for this must be high for a play but not super high so perhaps £3-4m tops? It wouldn't have too hard for the producers to get investors or for Warner Bros to underwrite the entire budget for them

The queue to pick up tickets from the box office was much shorter but very slow. If you can pick up tickets before it's busy that seems like a sensible plan if they've not been sent to you. The queue to go into the theatre moved pretty quickly, I was definitely in the box office queue for longer. Edited to add: I took a photo of the front of the theatre at 18:56 and I took a photo of the cast board inside at 19:06. So 10 minutes to get into the theatre and I'll guess 15 minutes for the box office queue.

Does anyone know if there is a certain time when you can collect tickets??
I wont be seeing it until October, but would prefer to personally have my tickets, so would I be able to pick them up this week as I am in London or is it just on the day to try and stop them from being sold???
Also, to those there tonight...what merchandise was on sale???

I don't want to post spoilers, and I hate to be that guy but…THIS is the theatrical event of the decade, never mind the year.
Every scene had it's own moment.
Every twist.
Every character.
It is the perfect Harry Potter play, but in a league of it's own.
I'm frantically looking for tickets to see Part 1 again.
It completely defied expectation.

I was there tonight.
I'm feeling such an emotional mess right now as part of my childhood has just received a continuation.
What I just loved about how they've done this is that they've used the magic of theatre to bring a magical story to life. So many beautiful, clever and wondrous little moments, some which range from very simple theatrical devices to more elaborate staging, you never know what's going to happen next.
Clasping my hands, gasping with shock and getting tingles down my spine and shedding a few tears with so many character moments and plot points, just like reading a new Harry Potter book for the first time.
Have to echo all the responses that this ran smoothly and snappy for a first preview, like a finished product. It certainly leaves you wanting more and I wouldn't complain if it expanded into three or even four parts!
This feels like fan service of the highest quality. I do wonder though, how anyone would react going into this not having read any of the books or having any knowledge of the story, would be interesting to see those responses.
I shall be there for Part II on Thursday, the next two days are certainly going to be a struggle to get through!
PS I was sat centrally in L13 in the Balcony, not so good if you suffer with vertigo and struggle with leg room but I felt no problem watching this all from above, very minimal restrictions and could see all the action and special effects very clearly.

I wanted to add F5 in the Balcony. Great seat; you don't miss anything, but yes it is high.
Gorgeous programme with production photographs for £5. Lots of other merchandise for sale.
It all went incredibly smoothly and we were all out by 10.20 this evening.

The extra tickets released for July are still not going in my basket. Same problem as some others here, there's no option to choose the number of tickets.
Was at Aladdin next door last night, I've never known anything like it for the play. Lots of people standing outside the theatre taking photos and just admiring the theatre frontage with the nest, plus lots of security dotted around the entrances. Aladdin finished at 10:00ish so HP was still in full swing.

The extra tickets released for July are still not going in my basket. Same problem as some others here, there's no option to choose the number of tickets. This seems to be a glitch with some of the times on sale. When I looked the other day there were some dates where I couldn't choose the number of tickets (it said there were between 0 and 1 available). And those dates were consistently unavailable to put in the basket. Other dates would show and allow me to chose the number of tickets immediately. Sometimes someone else would beat me to putting them in their basket but they would tend to pop back up again. And then eventually even better seats appeared and I felt a lot better about spending so much of my day pressing refresh! So if you're having this issue, I'd suggest trying some other dates as you might find that they work. And just keep trying in case more tickets appear. I am confused about when tickets become available on the waitlist though. I've only had one email about that (a few weeks ago). If it weren't for the tips from lovely people on here I would still not have tickets.
