It just occurred to be that Hannah Waddingham would be a fierce Velma - though not sure she could dance it? Never having watched Game of Thrones, I was very surprised when she popped up on TV being interviewed about her role in the show. No idea if that is ongoing though.

As much as I don't want to see Chicago returning so soon, I'm glad it's not Blood Brothers which people were calling to come back a few months back. Clearly ATG are desperate to fill the Phoenix since nothing since Once has lasted longer than a few months

I stumbled over that, too. My guess is that that was All about Eve with Cate Blanchett, which has gone completely quiet. They had a few options, as far as I know – at one point they almost secured Jake Gyllenhaal in SITPWG. And yet here we are. I WOULD'VE SOLD MY SOUL TO SEE THE LATEST SITPWG REVIVAL! god I hope is revived somewhere here soon!

Whhhhy Goood Whhhy
oh wait that's another show...but seriously, by all means tour it to death but we only just got rid of the damn thing. Don't get me wrong in its day Chicago was a brilliant and innovative piece of musical theatre, but let's give it a break and bring it back when it really is missed.

Money on Louise Redknapp? Very confident of them to say a year "initially". Louise Redknapp is so last year. There's another pop singer in the 'Strictly' final this year who might need some work and will want to show off her dance skills and all that jazz . . . I doubt it as she's signed up for the SCD tour.

Last seen being tortured in the dungeons of Kings Landing in 2016. Assumed dead as unseen, and new occupants moved in, this year.

Just no.
Spot the terrible , and the passable, celebs......
Don't they realise this is what killed the show last time?
The only way this would work would be if they redid the replay of former great actors in the two main roles they did in their last year in London - but a lot of those people are unavailable now - in Eastenders, New York, or something else.
There's plenty of great professionals from late in the last run who played Velma who probably can still play her.If they want to go younger, Lizzie Connolly might make one impressive, leggy Velma. Roxie needs someone who can act a psychopath in one of its forms. It doesn't need a TV star, it needs someone who can act a sweet or innocent looking, murderer, do cartwheels, stay with a very powerful singer, in the duets with Velma, dance, and who has a flexible neck.

Time to flood their Twitter account with names of past performers who weren't famous.
I'm sure they're fully aware how much their stars sucked and how far standards had fallen, but stunt casting worked for them. It got people to part with their money. Who cares if the performance is so dreadful they never come back? Over 99% of the audience would never come back anyway so what have they lost?

That Twitter ad is terrible and doesn't inspire much confidence in the returning show. It should be a first class production not a celebrity love - in like it was before. Puts me right off it!

I’d have put money on it being a Redknapp/Tamaddon type affair...maybe Honey G or Sam Bailey as Mama Morton although I’m expecting her to get a crack at Blood Brothers soon! 🙄

Sounds like Barry Weissler is taking the absolute Michael.
And, while I'm at it, ATG for that ludicrous ticket charge!

For those prices I want an absolute Hollywood superstar, not some woman from Eastenders!

You can tell this is going to be heavily discounted from the get go.

Monkey - a question for you, if you please....how is the center aisle seat in row C of the Phoenix? I'll be damned if I do premium for this show...
especially when the 3 words to describe the set are black, minimal, and chipped....
thanks!

Those prices are ridiculous - day seats or discounts for me - I'm not going to pay about 5 times the amount I did to see it on Broadway years ago!

I'll go once just to say i've seen it... I'll hunt down a comp as it begins to flop around two weeks in.

It’s a bit of a cheek considering the set consists of a few black boxes and a ladder on wheels (which they’ll have to nab back from the Cabaret tour where it currently has a minor role).

It is a great musical but I was never a fan of this production. I always thought it was semi-staged before that became in vogue. I called it almost a staged concert version even with the superb Ute Lemper and Ruthie Henshall in the original Adelphi revival cast! Band on stage, stairs, black portals.
For those prices I would expect Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger! Perhaps they are lining up a big name? But if it is some ex-soap star then it will have to be heavily discounted. Perhaps they will cast the lovely Debbie McGee!!

I think when it went on tour last year, it sold much much better than was initially expected, even with the stunt casting. So I wouldn't be surprised if the pricing is based on anticipation of high demand for the show itself. I wouldn't be surprised if a casting announcement coincides with some price increases.
That said, given that it opens in a relatively short amount of time, I am surprised that the prices aren't more reasonable in the opening weeks, to ensure that it opens to full houses.

ATG have put the booking fee up to £3.65 for this one - guessing their other shows will follow suit. Prices Monday to Friday run £125 / £95 premium (D to K stalls), £72.50, £62.50 (back 3 rows), £52.50 (end 2s in B to L) in the stalls, same in the dress circle (only row K is £52.50) and upper circle is £52.50, £42.50 rows A and G, £32.50 H, £20 J. Saturday both is £150, £125, £79.50, £67.50, £57.50, £47.50, £39.50, £25. A lot more central stalls held off for "dynamic" I'd guess. Stalls row AA is held off... wondering about day seats there... Wow!!!! They are pretty steep. Let’s hope they do dayseats and we can all see for 25 pounds.

It derived from the Encores! concert book-in-hand production in New York which transferred to Broadway and then to London.

I feel the same way about actor/musician shows where mostly it is about cutting production costs rather than artistic choices where again full musical theatre prices are charged. I always feel a bit ripped off!

Emma Hatton is doing a gig at the Hippodrome Casino next week and she's said on Facebook "I'll be announcing my next job" at the concert. Just wondering if it could be Roxie or Velma with the other celebrity-cast? I can see her more as a Velma. Just an idea but I'm probably completely wrong!
