Roxie was a bit of a stretch for her then, if I remember rightly.....

What date does DVO start?!
She was iconic when she marched out in the final seconds of Act 1 of Rent Remixed.

Also any further rumours as to whether this is transferring or closing? My hunch is that they will want to try and flog it a bit longer...

This is the cheapest show (or production rather) to keep open, they'll keep it open as long as they can or transfer if they have to. It's such a tired, stale old warhorse but here we are.
I can't believe Denise is going in as Velma - that would require some training for someone who hasn't been on stage in a taxing dancing role like this in decades. It was even a stretch for Josefina to do it now but at least she'd never stopped training/dancing.

I remember being very pleasantly surprised by DVO as Roxie 17 years ago. But then she was paired with Leigh Zimmerman as Velma who was sensational so I probably wasn't watching DVO as carefully as I could have been. What happy memories!

Three stars in the cast at the same time? That's a rarity for Chicago isn't it? Or is it not? I dont really follow Chicago, though I know they usually promote the hell outta their main star.

Surprised they didn’t keep DVO for when Alexandra left as the next star casting. Great having 3 celebrities imo

Who?
Just joshing Denise fans. I'm sure she'll be smashing. I recall rather liking her as Roxie back in the day. Alison Moyet was Mama Norton. Perhaps Denise and The Burkebot can swap 'Strictly' stories in the interval.

I think I'm going to have to go and see it now! - I haven't seen the Walter Bobbie production (do people call it that? how else to refer to it?) since early 2010 (?) - Ruthie Henshall and Anna Jane Casey.

Having been involved with this show many years ago (1999) I'm so happily surprised 'Chicago' is still around after all those years - certainly because not relying on big seats and special effects like many block buster musical have to attract large (international) audiences.

Does Duncan have an announced end date for his run? Has there been a new Roxie announced for after Alexandra leaves? My friend and I are hoping to go and deciding who to see!

Denise no longer playing the role from September due to injury. Her replacement will be announced shortly as well as the new dates for Denise.

I imagine most people would be going for Duncan anyway...
An understudy for this week at least I'm guessing ?

Stress fracture in the heel, apparently. I thought sex was in the heel personally but hey ho, poor DVO . .

I am seeing the show this week and post my thoughts here after.

Duncan is in the production for 8 weeks, so I'm guessing his last performance will be Saturday 3rd November. No word on who will replace Alexandra yet.

I saw Chicago last night and really enjoyed it. The cast is very strong overall. I had booked mostly to see Alexandra; I know she’s not everyone’s favourite here but I thought she did really well. No oversinging and I found her very funny in parts. It does show at times that she is not a trained actress but for the most part, she’s excellent. She gives it her absolute all and it’s a really spirited, high energy performance. She’s also a great dancer too, which helps. I met her at the stage door afterwards and she was very sweet. It’s the second time I’ve met her and she was nothing but lovely and gracious. She gets a rough ride from some folk in the comments here and elsewhere at times, which from what I’ve seen of her is very much undeserved.
Josefina Gabrielle and Mazz Murray were really fabulous, too. Duncan James was decent as Billy Flynn, also. The staging is simple and perhaps this might disappoint some, but I like how the orchestra is integral to the staging and there is a bit more razzle dazzle towards the end of the production. It didn’t feel tired to me, as some others here have commented, but if I was to see it again, new staging would be nice.
All in all, a very enjoyable night out! My only gripe would be how tight the legroom is in the Phoenix theatre. Space felt more at a premium here than at other West End theatres I’ve been to, but perhaps it’s just where I was seated.
