I'm sure she'll be OK, more than likely she'll barely ever be on.

For me, it doesn't really matter whether she is or isn't, because she should never have been given this opportunity. I think the most likely thing is that she can sing it fine (it's not difficult) and will struggle with literally everything else, on stage and off. But the idea that someone thought it was appropriate to cast a woman with her personality, public persona, and history, is just revolting. Who next, Katie Price?

I'm leaving it in the middle whether she'll be okay or not, or whether stuntcasting is bad.
Heck, I love Blood Brothers, so I can't exactly complain about stuntcasting.
It's just the reputation she comes with of being rude, obnoxious and unprofessional. She is known for either arriving late, or not turn up at all. She can't take criticism. And then she blames it on it being part of 'The GC'-persona.
When she released 'her' first book, during promo of said book, one of the instructions to interviewers was not to ask her about the book. When one dared to ask about the content, she said something along the lines of 'Don't ask me about that book, I don't know what's in it. I didn't write it.'
If I have to take a guess, I don't think she lasts beyond one show.

Casting a reality star in a legit musical is such a transparent money-grab. The producers don't care if she can do it or not, as long as she brings the money in.

I think it's fair to say the Sheffield Theatres Facebook page has never seen anything quite like it. 495 comments...mostly negative.

Some people have apparently been asking for refunds from Sunderland Empire and told they couldn't have them, though from the look of it they're allowing them to use credit for another show.

Well that's an interesting variation on the usual discussion of getting a refund when the star name doesn't appear

Interesting view from Andrew Hilton, who has been MD in a lot of touring shows (not sure if he's current MD on Chicago, he has been involved with the show) on Twitter:
"It seems “Be Kind” is only needed if you agree, and celebrity casting is only accepted if you approve.
"VERY disappointed in so-called “professionals” today & their vitriol. Auditions happen, US approval is needed; never rash decisions. Ticket sales for shows are in need!"
Then further on in the Twitter conversation:
"At the end of the day it’s genius marketing! Name another 25-year-old show (on yet another tour) that is getting discussed across all social media, making tabloid news and being discussed on TV. All that exposure and advertising – for FREE!"

Interesting take on it, indeed. So, it’s less about “Be kind” and more about intentionally riling people up for free marketing, at the expense of the person you’ve just stunt cast in your show.
I see.

Yeah I get there’s no such thing as bad publicity. But at what point does it just become a complete joke. At what point do the amount of people asking for refunds outweigh the ‘new people’ being brought into the theatre. It doesn’t automatically follow that GC fans would necessarily transfer watching her for free on TV into cold hard cash for the theatre. Regionally tickets are expensive compared to the deals you can get in London. Regional theatres don’t offer that. Can’t see a lot of her ‘fans’ parting with upward of £40 to see her tbh

The very essence of Chicago - all publicity is good and the only sin is to be forgotten. Genius.

There is something a bit "meta" about her casting, but I think to believe that that was intentional is giving them more credit than is due.
This is just casting to get the prosecco huns buying tickets.

If that’s who the theatres’ll be full of, that’s just another reason not to buy a ticket in my book. Because you can guarantee they won’t sit there quietly, only applauding at the correct moments…

Thing is this may very well get people into a theatre who wouldn’t normally go, I don’t deny it. But those people will not become theatregoers. They’ll “hit and run” leaving a trail of destruction behind them in terms of behaviour. That’s regardless of whether GC is any good, because I actually think she might pull it off performance-wise. But the audience she will attract… no. Even worse if the chav brigade are in and Gemma doesn’t even turn up.. carnage! “She ain’t on Trace, shall we go dahn the Pink Poodle for happy hour instead? Gaz and Baz go on Fursdiz slurp slurp I fancy Gaz summat rotten” “Nah Shaz, get in that bar and get me a pina colada with a lager chaser, might as well ‘ave a laff wiv these snobs ‘ere guffaw guffaw look at the state of ‘er hyuk hyuk”
Goodness..I’m a dreadful snob aren’t I? 🙂

Such a shame if this musical gets taken over by the chavs. It was always the property of us gays due to its campness and those see thru tops and tight trousers the boys wear. They won't appreciate those Fosse jazz hands like we Do. Such a shame 😞

There will be those who will pay money to see the show just because Miss Collins.
There will be those who will pay money just to see if she can do it. Clearly the producers of this show and the casting agents believe that she can.
I won't be one of those people.
I hope that those people feel that they've gotten their money's worth.
(I'd love to be proven wrong) unfortunately I don't believe Miss Collins has the vocal, physical or mental capacity or stamina to perform eight shows a week for however she is contracted for.
I predict lots of tears and tantrums.
I also predict that her understudy will be on more and working harder to carry the show than Miss Collins.
I also predict a fly-on-the-wall documentary on ITV by the end of the year.

Gemma is doing her one woman show this month which will just be talking. But Moma only really has two songs so it's not a tiring role but if she was a diva backstage I can see there being fireworks.
