If they put Cheryl in as Roxie, Sharon could be Mama. Perfect.
Its sad, but the show has turned into a joke with their bottom of the barrel casting. Get Nicole - at least she can sing and dance.

If Cheryl does the show, no doubt it will sell a bunch of tickets. She's still hugely popular! And in truth, she would be the reason to get me there. She would be the reason I wouldn't pay a penny to go there! If I'm going to spend money on a show I at least want to see people who can sing and act. She can do neither in my opinion!

At the risk of sounding unkind, Cheryl can hardly sing songs which have been written for her, let alone the score for Chicago.
Of course people will snap up tickets if it turns out to be true, but it doesn’t mean it will be good.
Hopefully it’s a little more successful than Sarah Harding’s venture into musical theatre, at least.

If they cast her as Roxie they'll be removing the best thing in the show. The actress who plays her is wonderful, easily the best thing on the stage and she saved the show for me.

She is no celebrity! Get Burly B in to boost numbers - I am sure he could show them a thing or two - even three!!

If the Vile Osbourne went anywhere near that show I swear I would burn down the Phoenix. And there wouldn't be a chance of it rising again from any ashes.

Sharon should never ever be cast in Chicago but I do like her. She’s honest at least!

Well. This was hilarious. You have to go to see it while Cuba Gooding Jr is still in it so that you can witness at first hand one of the most inept performances I've ever seen on London's glitzy West End. He can't act (unless he's doing his "show me the money" acting) and he certainly can't sing. Even with a microphone he is much lower in volume than anyone else and he can't dance either. Remember when Liza Minnelli had her hips done and was trundling around in a wheelchair and was told she'd never walk again? Well, even at that moment in time Liza would have danced better than Cuba. But the best thing about it is that he is blissfully unaware as to how bad he is, lapping up the whooping and cheering from the great unwashed in the audience. He is so bad even Florence Foster Jenkins would have pointed it out.
The show does look a bit tired but the score is like a Greatest Hits album it's so good and the rest of the cast are great though, Sarah Soetaert is a joy (probably the most comic Roxie Hart I've ever seen) and Josefina Gabrielle is wonderfully catty. Can I just take a moment to remind everyone that Josefina Gabrielle is 54? Yes, that's right, 54. I hope no-one ever gets hold of the picture she's clearly got in the attic because she looks sensational (and has amazing legs). I also did not know that she was married to Michael Praed, star of the 'Dynasty' wedding massacre.
And Ruthie? Well I thought she sounded great and she looks as gorgeous as ever and it's so nice that she's played the three main roles in the show at different times. Mama Morton is a bit of a thankless role really but La Henshall makes the most of it and lesbians it up like a tornado.
The boys are utterly hot and there are so many hot buns on show that I felt like Mary Berry on 'Bake Off' but I'd like to make special mention of Chris Warner Drake as Fred Casely. Oh my. If it wasn't 100 degrees yesterday I would have sworn it was him. Whoever was the Casting Director for this show, you are on my Christmas card list. Forever.

Mazz is a good choice.
As Ryan said, it's amazing to think that Josefina is 54 and is actually older than Ruthie. I wonder if they might consider Josefina as Mama in due course as she'd have the sass for the role.
Wasn't the great Chita Rivera about 65/66 when she played Roxie!

I just got back from seeing this, man I love Ruthie! Her voice still gets me.
Having never seen it before, I much preferred it to the film which I didn't really enjoy.

I always find it funny when they cast young actresses like Sarah and Ashlee Simpson as Roxie. When she says "I'm older than I ever intended to be..it's like - how old did you intend to be - 12?

He is so bad even Florence Foster Jenkins would have pointed it out I think that has to be the best review I've ever read. Still giggling now 40 minutes after first reading it. Can we PLEASE get that up in lights outside the theatre? ;-)

I notice that Todrick Hall (fairly famous performer/youtuber in America) has said on twitter he might be moving to London for a while......he played Billy Flynn in Chicago on Broadway for a time..also Lola in Kinky Boots but doubt that will happen.

(Though I was much younger then too!) I just think Roxie is a fabulous role for an older actress who can dance as there aren't so many opportunities these days. When Chita played Roxie in London, she must have been in her high 60s? (Though it's hard to compare her to anyone else as she is in a class by herself!)

Ruthie had been a well known performer for a fair while when she was originally cast as Roxie so maybe she seemed older. I've never thought of her looking particularly old or young for her age. Ute Lemper was only 34 when she was cast in the revival too.
Roxie's age is always open, as she plays the baby doll type character but is obviously older than that. I'd always thought of her as mid 30's.
I agree Sarah looks great for 39 and probably shares an attic picture with Josefina.

This would literally be the only reason I’d book to see this. Of course if Cheryl does end up going in too it would cancel out my interest with immediate effect.
