How was Petula’s performance, given the comments we have seen in the Mary Poppins thread? Did she sing it ok? Her performance was great. Because she has acted so much she not only did what is a difficult song with a lot of lyrics word perfect but also added in accents where it fitted such as Greta Garbo etc It was an amazing performance from an almost 90 year old. Afterwards she was her usual modest self when we met her briefly. She is always polite and chats despite coming out of stage door to what must have been an intimidating sight of huge vans and people with a narrow walkway to get to her waiting car but she happily signed programmes and chatted. What a lady!

My only cringe was the clip from Hey Mr Producer which was an homage to CmK - if they wanted to show Sondheim performing there are loads of recordings of him workshopping stuff, but that clip was really bigging up Cameron and felt out of place. Was the Hey Mr Producer clip the duelling pianos segment or was there more? Glad everyone enjoyed themselves, it looks like a great night all round. Slightly wish I went but at the same time I really don't think I could justify the price! Wasn't Adrian Lester also originally announced? Any others that never made it that were announced originally?

Considering how dreadful I thought Petula was in Mary Poppins both times I saw her, she actually managed pretty well last night.
It was comfortable by any means, but having the oldest cast member sing 'Im Still Here' really gave it a new meaning

Was the Hey Mr Producer clip the duelling pianos segment or was there more? It was the central section of this video, where ALW and Sondheim were side by side:

Also Hannah Waddingham pulled out last minute due to illness.

The atmosphere was electric and there are rarely so many standing ovations. It was so well put together and seemed to go without a hitch. Am i wrong or did Judi make a mistake at the start of SITC? Yeah she took some major liberties in the first verse, but it didn't really show and she nailed the rest My husband (who is Welsh) also thought that Janie Dee lost some syllables of Llanfair PG but wouldn't be able to say for certain without hearing it back...

So I have just recreated the concert by making a playlist of all the songs in programme order. For some I've been able to use the actual artist who sang it on the night but for the others I've chosen my favourite version. A bit sad I know but until we get a DVD or even a CD (please), it's the best I can do.

AJ also stumbled a tiny bit with Not Getting Married but all credit to her as I think it was the fastest version I've ever heard.

Yes she did stumble however after doing so seem to slow down just a smidgen.
Bernadette Peters also stumbled with a line I 'Hello, Little Girl'

I wasn't in love with Petula's I'm Still Here. As she was performing I thought about what a sensation Julia would have caused if she sang it. Could you imagine?
I was gutted that Sian didn't sing Liaisons. It probably was too long to insert into the concert and too difficult to remember.

Personally, as they had both Rapunzel's hair and Bernadette Peters I would have loved to have seen 'Our Little World' or 'Giants In The Sky' as that's what everyone was saying when Sondheim passed.
Even 'Sorry, Grateful', 'Finishing The Hat' or 'Stay With Me' or even 'Johanna' or 'Not While I'm Around' wouldn't have gone amiss but again, where do you stop?

They didn't do Not While I'm Around??! WTF?! One of his "greatest hits"!

Ofc we would have all wanted the show to be an hour longer. We have our favourite songs we wished were performed but Sian was already a part of the cast. Her connection to Sondheim is ALNM and Liaisons. Naturally, I thought she would be having a solo and it would be Liaisons. She was merely a cameo, a great one nonetheless, but a cameo.

Who’s the young girl who sung the part of Anne in ‘A weekend in the country’? I don’t believe she’s listed in the program What a wonderful voice she has!!

Yes, I do remember both her and Dame Judi in the National's production of A Little Night Music so understand where you're coming from.

That was Holly-Anne Hull, current alternate Christine at Phantom. I thought she did an excellent job with that number, and really would like to see her play Anne in a production now!

Shame I missed this. Wonder if they’ll do it again. Pretty sure it was a one off concert. It was recorded on the night and streamed to a nearby theatre and there was rumour of it being released at some point but I've not heard anything.

Hopefully there’ll be plenty more Sondheim concerts but we’re not going to get something on this level with this calibre and amount of stars again.
