Palladium Panto 2022 - Jack and the Beanstalk

I would’ve liked to have seen an entirely brand-new cast. Let’s hope Paul Zerdin actually comes up with some entirely new material for this production.

It got very tiresome last year.

Fun, though! I’m sure the scale will be immense.

I had put this a couple of times in the previous thread, but in December during Pantoland, screens all over the Palladium were advertising that it would be Jack and the Beanstalk.

I think last years was worth it just for Julian. But yeah, let’s hope Zerdin is locked in a room somewhere forcing himself to come up with new material.

As much as I complain about 'same old', I still love going to the Palladium. Also at least they are ostensibly doing an actual panto. I'm sure it's just an excuse for more of the same but there might even be a plot!

Also I've never seen Dawn French as a Dame. What is Gary Wilmot going to do?

Its Dawn French that's the most disappointing. She wasnt great last time she was there and really surprised she's coming back.

The whole cast is disappointing really. Will skip it this year.

At least if you saw it last year and plan to revisit this year then you don’t have to buy another programme.

No doubt it will be this cast for the next 10 years and Nigel Havers will be back.

Why is it almost the same cast year in year out?! Going by the comments on here last December, Paul Zerdin should be retired with immediate effect… 😂

In Baz’s article he writes that Michael Harrison is throwing the kitchen sink at the special effects with an animatronic giant, and that the main villain will be the giant’s wife, who was yet to be cast.

This screams out Jennifer Saunders? Or is Elaine coming back too?

I love the repeated cast. Paul zerdin needs to do something new but not sure how much more he can do really!

Zerdin needs new material - the actual routine is fine it just needs to be different gags!

Again, like I said a few pages back, panto is about repetition. Lots of people go back *because* it's the same gags every year. They have a format, sales will dictate change.

This is true, many regional pantos have a local comedian who returns every year doing the same routines.

You would just expect a push for something new at the Palladium though.

Currently about 4,500 in the queue for pre-sale so they must be doing something right with having the same cast year after year

I have managed to get through the queue, but looking at the prices, I think I'll take the risk that there will be some discounted single seats available nearer the time.

Opening night looks to be Wednesday 14 December for anyone interested in possibly getting to sit near The Krankies and the other celebrities. Most of the Stalls are blocked out for that night.

Prices near the start of the run (weekdays) are £22.50 to £165. You're really looking at £89.50 up for anything half decent in the Stalls (there are some cheaper ones right at the back and at the extreme sides).

Got my usual seats in the Grand Circle. £29.50 each. They make a big thing about the safety rail being in view but I didn't notice it at all so I'm very pleased. In fact I think it's a better view than the stalls.

I'll be up there again in the front row. Legroom is a much greater issue than the bar for me but worth it!

I made exactly the same snap decision when earlier I almost booked two front row stalls seats for £95 each.  There are often on the day price cuts, especially on single seats, and discounts on January performances and they may even run the National Lottery free ticket promotion again.

I know on here you love your Julian, but for basically the same routines the prices are very high.
