Interesting casting all round, especially Matthew Duckett as Crutchie. Saw Matthew Duckett in a production of My Left/Right Foot in Edinburgh a few years back. My Left/Right Foot being a musical adaption of the film My Left Foot where Daniel Day Lewis was brought in to act the role of a person with disabilities, which caused controversy in some circles. Matthew Duckett, having CP, gave a sense of inclusion (which is what the show poked fun at) and was cast in the musical as being able to give a more honest representation of the role. Like that the creatives here have chosen not just to get a guy in with a prop crutch but have gone for some inclusion.

Couple of familiar faces, Moya Angela shared the role of Effie with Marisha Wallace and Karen Mav for the second year of the London run of Dreamgirls. I always assumed she lived in America and just moved to London for the year to do Dreamgirls, I guess she could be doing the same again but this is a smaller role than Effie and not even “West End”. Also George Crawford just recently finished playing Ogie on the Waitress tour and was in the same year group as Jac Yarrow at ArtsEd so I assume he’s done Newsies before.

Just had email. The performance I'd booked [1st Dec] is cancelled due to Royal Variety Show. I've asked for a refund.

Not recieved my email about this yet. Gutted as I had planned a whole trip from Scotland to see this! Can't believe they'd cancel a performance to perform on TV. Shameless!

Spotted some front row seats (£30) available for Wednesday 30 November, so just booked. Hopefully I'll get refunded for 1 December at some point.
Just posting now in case that helps anyone else looking for good seats.

Emailed Disney tickets. The response was very out of touch, big surprise.
Putting in bold that the cast have been invited to the Royal variety performance and that its a BIG HONOUR.
Oh well, I've got my new tickets now. Just awaiting the refund!

I’ve now had my email, which says they’ll swap my ticket for any show during the run, but also honour the preview rate. I’ve not worked out dates yet, but that seems pretty fair to me.

In ye olden days, it was the Royal Command Performance, though I don't think it's been called that for quite some time.
I suppose you have to decide is it better to inconvenience whatever the capacity of the Troubadour is, or reach a TV audience of millions.

Nah, its shambolic. Its on every year. The production team have dropped a big old b@llock there by not planning it in.

I may have completely made this up but I thought when I was a child there were 2 different performances. Royal Command which was a bit more highbrow with opera, ballet etc and then the Royal Variety which was more mainstream that always ended with some big American star headlining.

Just reading an article about Newsies in the new Musicals magazine. It mentions that there is a cast of 35 which is big and wonder if that includes understudies. Would be great with 35 though, and an orchestra of 13 which is bigger than they had on Broadway. There are also 5 new "sequences" with a prologue added and reworked "seize the day" and "King of New York". This is a musical I've been waiting years to see. I was originally going to one of the first performances but have had to cancel and now not going until mid Jan.

It’ll have been pulled off by then for ‘Newsies’ not being an inclusive enough term for the full spectrum of news vendors at the turn of the last century. Can’t be seen to oppress fictional street urchins of yesteryear.

I was just about to post wondering if there's scope for this to extend and as if by magic I see it's announced to April 16th now. Quite excited for this this week!

I really can't wait for this. Brontè Barbè's Watch What Happens sounds absolutely perfect. I've listened to it about 5 times since this morning. She killed it at the FRINGE in Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder and I hope Newsies skyrockets her career. What a talent! www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001fdfb(18 minutes in)

I'm there tomorrow and Wednesday. Didn't think I could do tomorrow originally so have been stalking the website for returns - got one quite close to the back, and then snagged another ticket in a better position so will be returning one probably. Then front row on Wednesday.
