Great to hear this has a longer life coming. Dance-heavy shows like this are such a joy to watch. Let's hope they fix the sound in their next venue and have a stronger lead.

I'd have loved to have been there but probably would have cried through most of it as I did for the last performance of 42nd Street. I was lucky to see it 4 times including one of the first previews and the original last night which ended up just being last night for some of the cast due to the extensions. It really was a joy to watch even with the trek to Wembley and I look forward to it's return somewhere next year.

I suspect they’ll put this in the Dominion for a season next year.

Was my guess too on reflection - it will still need restaging but having that large a stage means they've still got the room to do it on the scale they had before.
Limited run in town, then done.

I suspect they’ll put this in the Dominion for a season next year. Not a lot of space in the Dominion’s schedule with The King & I and Sister Act taking it through until the autumn.

Does anyone remember a time a little while back where there was talk of trying to put this show on yet despite open casting calls they couldn't find enough male dancers?

Personally I think that was a bit of an unfounded rumour. I've often heard that as an excuse but it's rubbish as we have plenty of great young dancers which has been proven with 42nd Street and now Newsies.

Disney was pondering bringing the show to London after the Broadway production opened, around 2012, that I know of. www.londontheatredirect.com/news/gossip-disney-smash-hit-musical-newsies-headed-to-london Perhaps around that time, they just couldn't find the actors they were looking for? (there were around 17 young male dancers in their Broadway cast). 42nd Street started looking for actors in 2016 and had a smaller and a little older male ensemble that was dwarfed by the number of women. I'm going to have to ask some friends if they have any detail on that rumour but perhaps that's all it is.

After this was mentioned around twitter when it opened at the Troubadour, Christopher Gatelli popped up to confirm this wasn't the case

Well Jeremy Jordan is nailing it but I have to say I much preferred the London production to this one.

I thought there would be news about a 2024 production by now, but the show's website is still in teaser mode. Anyone heard anything? Waitin makes me antsy...
For what it's worth I think a less immersive version would do well in a "proper" West End venue during the summer followed by an autumn/winter tour. The last month of shows in July seemed to attract good numbers of tourists, particularly from the US.

An email update sign-up link has been added to the Newsies site, so hopefully not too long now. Not sure if you need to sign up again if you did so for the Troubadour run, but I have 🙂

It cant go back into the Troubador! A new venue in London? UK tour?

It will be a new London venue (I would assume) but my concern is their initial worry of lack of UK dance talent for this production resulted in the lengthy wait for London to have Newsies... and many of the original cast have moved onto new projects so unsure if we will see this in 2024? I would very much hope we do!
P.S I am confident we DO have the talent here in the UK, just going off what I know from the past.

Is the Roundhouse in Camden still a functioning space? Even quirkier than the Troubador, (and as a former railway turntable it would have had the heritage for Starlight).
Anyway, it could house ‘Newsies’ really well.

Anyway, it could house ‘Newsies’ really well. It does regular gigs and has had some theatre, last year it ran Jean Paul Gaultier Fashion Freak Show for about a month but I can't see it becoming a home for a show running more than a few weeks.
