Will be very interested to see how this new production goes. The website says it features songs from the 70s film so it will probably be closer to the Broadway version, opposed to the West End.
I imagine it will also probably tour after like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang did.

I would rather it stuck to the 70's movie - saw this in London a few years ago and was quite bored by it. It took 90m for him to get to the factory!

As long as they write off 99% of the changes made for the Broadway production it'll do well. If they go down the minimalist route again there will be mass disappointment. The fact they say "reinvention" is reassuring; some of the effects, staging and set of the London production were incredible and really added to the romance of it - for me at least! I loved it in London and was very disappointed by the butchering the US production did. It seemed they spent more on decorating the outside of the theatre than they did on physical set for the production. They'd better have kids playing the kids and remove the weird stereotypes they stuck in for the US laughs like the russian ballerina etc. Elevator wise - perhaps they'll use the Bedknobs bed mechanics  |

As long as they don’t do the terrible thing of adults playing the kids like Broadway did, then I’ll definitely be giving this one a go.

They went down that route for Lion Witch and the Wardrobe so I wouldn’t be at all surprised. I wonder if they’re reconfiguring the seating to make it in the round again?

I think if they go down the route of someone like Sally Cookson's way of directing, they can fix a lot of the real awful problems with the London production. There's a good score but it was so unbelievably overblown in Drury Lane. On a smaller scale I can see this working and having a good touring life.
Perfect for Christmas!

I thought it was weird they made Veruca Salt Russian in the Broadway production. It makes more sense to be an uptight British girl.

James Brining directed and Simon Higlett designed the Leeds production and subsequent tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and they also did the Leeds production of Wizard of Oz in 2019/20 which might give some indication of type of production this is likely to be. I suspect it will be as lavish as a regional theatre budget allows - which will hopefully prevent it being completely overblown, but not too scaled down. Also, in both of the productions mentioned they had children playing the children.

Hope they bring back Juicy, Simply Second Nature and the original intro rather than Wonka walking out and effectively becoming a narrator.
Will be interesting to see what changes they make.

I popped a membership in my basket. It's NOT in the round. AA is the front row. Tickets from £14 upto £55, I think, depending on performance date, less any discount, plus booking fee.

As much as I was looking forward to this (in truth) I was a little underwhelmed by the London production, especially the Chocolate Room.
(Just a useless bit of trivia) Has anyone ever noticed that the children go in the order that they come?
Augustus Gloop is the first Golden Ticket winner and is the first child to go.
Violet Beureguarde is the second and then Verucca Salt and so on and so forth.

Oh it works much better with only Charlie as the kid than it does with them all...London was a massive snore but it zipped along better on Broadway with just Charlie

I know they're working etc, but I can't help feeling that being the only child in a performance like that might not be much fun?

It specifies that they need to be from the North too, no doubt due to travelling but I wonder if it’s also being done with northern accents. They did that with Lion, Witch Wardrobe.
Maybe Willy Wonka is now from Barnsley, “Ey up young’uns does tha want a bag o’ me best spice from t’factory? Come wi’ me and tha’ll see t’world o’ pure imagination… oy Augustus gerroff me chocolate fountain it’s not for thee tha cheeky beggar” etc 😟
