I was there and it was a wonderful evening - I thoroughly enjoyed. Maria is such a fantastic interpreter of all she sings and she was joined by four talented friends and a choir from RAM I believe. It’s a must see in my opinion and is a production of very high quality. Go see!

End 10.40 but will probably get tighter by opening night.

Saw this last night as well. Was a lot of fun, though some of the gushing was a little much. Great songs and interpretations though! Lot more of sondheim than others

I was at the press night yesterday and what a fabulous show this is.
Always been a fan of Maria Friedman and Sondheim so this was right up my street.
Really well put together evening celebrating the work of Sondheim, Hamlish and Legrand who have all played an important part in Maria's life.
Its a mixture of concert/chat show with Maria and some of the cast telling lovely stories along the way.
All of the singers were great and also the addition of the Royal Acadamy of Music Choir. Part of the show which is called "Legacy" is to showcase new and upcoming talent and I think we are in good hands. Maria said that throughout the run different young people will be performing which will give them a great opportunity to perform in front of an audience.
Good mixture of songs, more Sondheim than the other 2 composers and I get the feeling the content will vary from night to night.
2 of my favourite songs of all time were performed by the cast and choir and sounded wonderful. Sunday and Our Time which always make me cry a little.
Nice addition last night as Marvin Hamlish's widow was in the audience and Maria brought her up on the stage to tell us a couple of lovely stores about her husband.
I really recommend this to any musical theatre fans as you are in for a treat.
And Maria's voice is sounding so good at the moment.

I was a little hesitant about booking for this having never been a huge fan of Maria Friedman but wow, what a way to spend what would've been Sondheim's 92nd birthday last night! It's undeniable that Maria Friedman is a rare breed having gotten to work so closely with those great composers and the songs were clearly very carefully selected to showcase the best of Sondheim, Legrand and Hamlisch. It's amazing what Maria's voice can still do, her sustained belt at the end of A Piece of Sky is something I will definitely continue to cherish. I think there's been some eye-rolling with the casting of Alfie Friedman but his Franklin Shepard was nothing short of captivating. I was extremely moved throughout the evening by the stories and memories being shared and I don't think there are many other acts at the moment who would be able to pull off a similar show in this format. Highly recommend for all musical theatre fans.

Is Umbrellas of Cherbourg represented? I Will Wait for You is in a Legrand medley that opens the second act - that was the only UoC reference the night I was there. |

Well, this was quite brilliant. Far exceeded my expectations. Was my first time seeing Maria Friedman live and she was just magnificent, her Losing My Mind brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful.
Supporting cast all very good. Unmissable - such an enjoyable evening.

While everyone was great, I was surprised at how many times I'd experienced Matthew White's work as a performer and Director.

I knew of Matthew White's work as a director as he has done quite a few shows at the Menier but I didn't know of his acting roles. I remember seeing Bat Boy at Southwark and couldn't think where I knew him from until I read the programme. |

Saw this last night - so good, do go if you can before it finishes at the end of the week.
Highlights for me were Being Alive at the start of the show (with a real wall of sound from Maria, her colleagues and the choir) and Losing My Mind, and I loved hearing Fallin', which I had no idea was from They're Playing Our Song. Great to see performances from the young people too, all of whom should hopefully have big careers ahead of them based on this. And as well as being a fabulous performer, Maria herself is an excellent and engaging storyteller, and very funny, which made the evening zip by.

Amazingly musically, I'm not sure if I've heard MF sound so good.
Highlights - Piece of sky, Sunday and Merrily Overture.
It was the final show and MF was very happy but God she was such a braggart. To the point it really marred my enjoyment of the whole show.
Can I just say, in general we really don't get enough Ian McLarnon ... I'm going to start a petition!
